Want a King? (spoilerish) / rate my fortress
« on: April 02, 2009, 09:21:31 pm »

I've been playing DF since the 2d version..
Believe it or not, I never had a king.
I stopped playing most fortresses before that due to too low fps / not enough patience.
However, behold here:
My favourite fortress so far.. Incoming King, for any of you who, like me, never had one.

Also, more than half of the population is born and raised in the fort.. Some tinkereing, and disabling dining rooms, could set up a NICE tantrum spiral, please feel free to doom the fort.
Take your time please to look around the fort.. Press (N) to see some notes in it, handy for understanding levers, plus some fun.

Oh, and look too, at the pride of the fortress.. My military.. Or rather, their equipment. :)

Enjoy, and lemme know what you think of my fort.

I'm still working out how to most efficiently kill of the biggest number of elves in the shortest/least amount of effort/time... Turns out that megaprojects are not always the best way in this case.. :( (They are always the best way in any other case!!! Reason: They are huge pointless timewasters!! Megaprojects ftw!!)

Would the elf traders come next year if you were to trap the previous caravan?  You could probably get quite a few if you were to build a trade depot which you can go into, but can't get out of.

You could always make the elves go unconcious on cage traps in order to build up your stock of killables. It drives them instantly insane as well, or so I hear.

Can someone upload this to the Map Archive? I generally prefer to view other people's fortresses there rather than on my own computer, unless the objective is to adventure through them.

I've been playing DF since the 2d version..
Believe it or not, I never had a king.

Don't worry I'm even worse, I've never had more than one goblin siege on the same map. Nor have I ever had any of the proper nobility.

Here's a map.. Although most impressive feats of this fort are the armor and weaponry of the military, which you cannot see on the map..

What frame rate do you get playing that?
I get . . .10. 30 when I flooded the fort with magma by accident.

At it present state I get between 15-25 FPS on my laptop, AMD turion64 x2, ATI Radeon Express1100..

Gonna try it with 40d11 soon, hope for improvement.. ALthough, with all the micromanagement, 20-25 FPS is just fine.

This reminds me of the time I first got a King.

After around 5-10 years or so he went berzerk, and killed 3-4 Dwarves with his bare hands.  I stripped my Fortress Champion of her weapons and equipment, and they engaged in hand to hand combat.  To the death.
