Interesting river site
« on: April 01, 2009, 05:33:18 am »

http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-5266-inkedenter

Perfect for the lazy underwater fortress builder. None of that pesky lake draining, just single layer rivers. The waterfall from the stream flowing in means I should be able to fill a reservoir formed by blocking off the canyon ends quite easily.

I might get ambitious and construct a set of pumps to move the water from the major river source over the top and let it crash down at the other end to flow out of the map. We'll see how it goes.

EDIT: Hm, for some reason I can't make that reproduce the region. Odd. If you can get it to work, the site's down in the southwest corner of the map; it's on the major river and has no aquifer, so it shouldn't be too hard to locate.

Interesting...
You really ought to make a dramatic bridge going over the river. With iron pillars and suspension cables.

Make it high up in that case, with good timing you could turn the entire river red!

I've never seen a river that big, wow. A lot of pretty interesting stuff you can do with it, I'm sure. It's been said, but I'd like to see updates as well.

I don't think I'm going to have permanent fancy bridges. The dams themselves will probably bridge the river, and I suppose I could make them wide enough for a roadbed and some statues...

Anyway, yeah, this site has some very good potential. The fact that it doesn't have a pesky aquifer makes it much better in my view.

I've managed to find it, for I greatly like the look of this site. ^^

On the major river in the southwest, two tiles southward (I think) from where there is a nearby forest retreat, where a marked brook joins the river from the east. Oddly, this brook doesn't show as one after embarking, but that's the location.

This is Dwarf Fortress, a masterly crafted game. It is adorned with bands of epic, and is studded with spikes of awesome. On the game is an image of a toad and many dwarves. The dwarves are worshipping the toad. The toad is laughing. The dwarves are dying.

Confirming the world gen info works.
Will play when I can get the framerate above 50. Damn river ate my FPS...

because that's not the dwarven way. Could you make more statues of Urist instead of an impossibly large one chiseled out of the mountain? Sure, you could. If you want to be called a ninny elf by all your friends.

I found the region. That is a small zone with no aquifers, I must say.

2 words: Hydro-electric Dam!

edit: Also, no carp  ;D

Erm, location of said major river, please?

And I see bauxite!

EDIT: Shit, a stream makes a water fall into it! Erg, what is next, a natural magma river?

Any magma or anything like that in the site? Aquifer?

I'll probably end up using a site like this for a "hollow mountain" fortress, since the steepest cliffs I tended to get using my personal settings were only a few Z-levels.

Edit: Never mind the aquifer bit. I can't read this early in the morning.
