If immigrants and founders ever stop being randomly generated on the spot, this wouldn't be a bad feature

Especially if we ever get to send the useless kids away after they mature. Their parents would probably want to exchange mail yearly with their emigrated children

Dwarves can barely manage to remember to eat, and they use their offspring as shields.
I doubt they'd care enough to send birthday cards.

Signed.

Well, the nobles would likely send mail to each other - if only because they're rich enough to afford it.  As for the peasants, they weren't sending mail very far - just to the next village over a couple days travel to the south.  They might have friends and family there from before they immigrated.  Or they might just be trying to perform Nigerian bank scams.

In real life, a great deal of what we know about important historic figures comes from reading their mail, or the mail of those who came into contact with them.  This holds true going all the way back to the Romans or the Greeks.

BTW there will be letters and poems:
LANGUAGE ARC: The in-game languages need a better framework, as many simple name formulations are impossible in the current system, and it wouldn't hurt to add a basic grammar and phonetics at this time as well. In addition, paper, engraved writing, books, poems, songs, etc. could all be explored in the different game modes in various ways. Related to Core97, Core98, Core99 and Core100.

And if you look at the bloats, you'll see that this sort of thing is already considered...

But they remain two perfectly valid questions before we start wasting time with a mail system.. What happens when all your society's members are outside of any other society.
If your outpost doesn't have any relatives in the mountain homes, no letters, if it does, yes letters..?
Also I'm pretty sure every entity is supposed to have a family in the future of DF, just right now immigrants and founders are spawned the second they appear.

Like for relevant case, you believe, Work-ohol Cog needs a trinket for her work, bam.
