Excuse me while I vent, I just lost my legendary miner, legendary miner/mayor, legendary engraver, legendary weapon/armorsmith, legendary bone carver and 12 other dwarves to what? FISH! GODDAMNED FISH! I had most of the river lined with marksdwarves to prevent this happening, so where to the dwarves go to fetch water? The designated water/pond area? NO! All the way upstream, to the, unguarded, edge of the map to collect water! Whereupon they all get nommed to death by goddamned STURGEON! 20 Orcs? No problem, 30 Gobbos? Easy. One bloody Piscine death machine? DOOOOM! DOOOOOOOOOOM!

Maybe, there wasn't any for ages though, until the first one dove into the gaping maw of  bloody aquatic tooth-filled death.

Yeah, I just heard that (IIRC) Dwarves won't drink bloody water.

It was after a few of those that I started checking the gender of my dwarves(werewolves, actually) before sending out hunters and fishers so that I wouldn't inadvertently kill off all of one gender and leave myself without a surviving breeding pair before migration could occur.

I always go into orders and set dwarves to only drink from zones, then set a safe area as the water source and fishing area.

Does the bloody water area show itself as unsuitable for a water source when zoning?
