"Office" not registering
« on: March 29, 2009, 10:02:43 pm »

So, built my Leader a tiny 3 square office, put a chair and a table in and made the office off the chair:

q chair/throne, r (Make Throne Room or Study), size, & assign (a) to the Leader. Then spacebar = done.

But then, much later, I get this message:

<Leader> cancels Update Stockpile Records: Need office. x14

Go and check the room, and it's all still there - the size, the assignment, the works.

So... what gives?  Is a "study" different from an office?

You're not wrong, they're exactly the same.

Two things spring (erm, crawl) to mind:
1) Is the office of the requisite level of quality (actually, this shouldn't cause job cancellation...)
2) Is the door locked or otherwise obstructed?

Hmm...

I'm in my second season, just start of summer - no one is picky... yet.

And the door seems fine.

But update - I now am getting spammed by multiples of that same message between others - including the winner...

<Leader> cancels Update Stockpile Records: Need office. x65

The others are listed repeating x19, x4 and x 28.  Time to reboot?

(Edit - Oh, and the book keeper Settings are at "Low")

This sounds hell of annoying, I'm glad it's not happening to me (although it is summer in Grandfloors once more, which means RHESUS MACAQUE SPAM >:().
I did briefly think it might be to do with one of those esoteric orders like "dwarves can/not go outside", but if that were the problem you'd probably get a different message, rather than one referring specifically to the office (although that you're being spammed with other messages too, now, is intruiging).
Try replacing this dufus with another book keeper? and/or assign, then re-assign the office?

Try replacing him with another dwarf and reassigning the office to them.

And if that doesn't work, post the save for someone to look at.

Toady, how much of DF is inspired by Labyrinth? Is Armok actually David Bowie? Because that would simultaneously be disturbing and awesome.

It sounds like you have an access problem. The guy knows there's an office available, and that there's work to be done there, but he can't get there. Is the guy trapped anywhere? Is the office somehow blocked off from the rest of the fortress?

That was it.

I was channeling a moat in 3 places at once, and cleverly cut my fort in two.  Most of the workers didn't notice, but he did.

Effin n00b.  ::)

nm, I'll just back to smokin whatever it is that makes me stupid in front of this game.

THANKS!
