Rage does not cover this feeling.
« on: March 29, 2009, 06:44:42 pm »

FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUU-

Now what do I do? I mean, I guess I'll just turn off the pump and break it open, chop it down and go, but still!

Took so long for it to get watered that trees grew in it... honestly?!

It happens, just cut the tree down, then build constructed floors in the area.
Problem solved. :D

I can't even tell what's going on. What are those blue things? What are the green ones? It's like you're using some bizarre system of symbols to represent trees and water and all that stuff. That's insane.

Mostly just rage at the fact I have to take down the wall then put it back up and such...

Also: Now that the wall is down, and the pump is still running, I have a very slow inching flood (Water source is slowly spreading as well, underground) and I can't rebuild the wall.

Naturally I should just lever it up and shut it off, but my mechanics are all busy... Meh, it'll all just evaporate.

Make that three. It looks like something was barfed up by a Nintendo Entertainment System there. Blowing on the cartridge might solve your problem.

odd graphics, whats wrong with the default asci? (4th! heh)

tree growth increases when you have more water in an area. this is why swamps are so thick with trees. always always put a paved road or constructed floor anywhere you want to pump water. especially underground, in case you find a cave river or pool. trees take 3 years to grow, so you can spot em early if your alert.

i have seen a water bug with tree growth, where you cut the tree and the 7/7 water wont flow past that space. i had to dig around it. short term, you may just want to deconstuct one part of the axle.

it helps to have a lever to shut off your pumps, just in case. those trees are worse when they clog the drainage and cause a flood.

Shut up all of you about Mayday Graphics.

They keep me sane.

It's not that I can't handle bad graphics. And by bad I mean originally awesome, It's just, I can't handle confusion. I need it to make sense, and now I'm just used to it.

How does a piece of ore representing a axle make sense?

All right people, no more raging about tilesets. Some of us like 'em, some of us don't. Personal choice.

This thread is about trees growing to spite us, and that is all the topic shall be about.

Damn elves are likely behind this.

Also, yer whinin' is about having tear down a wall and build it again? Why, real men whine about an entire 3-level wall needs to be torn down and made a tile to the side.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

Fifth, HAH! Dwarf Fortress is in alpha, not even most games have a decent amount of 3D models to look understandable! Even than ascii is one of my favoritest methods of graphical representation.

Besides that, 'B' 'O'= dirt road or just pave before hand, not that I even know what saplings in that graphical sets look like. THEY LOOK LIKE THIS IN VANNILA GRAPHICS! :D τ τ dead ones look like that, more or less.

There's been much worse in the way of tilesets. I had one of my friends who plays put a new tileset on here. Everything was fucking circles. Do you know how bewildering it is to boot up your 100 dwarf fortress with sprawling stockpiles, large forges, etc. and see a mass of OOOOOO everywhere? I thought I was Neo, and was so dissapointed...

Well, of course it's personal choice whether or not you want to choose to use a graphical tileset. And the original question has already been answered. Which means the discussion is free to wander.

And, like a fat girl in a bright purple muumuu who has just wandered into a designer clothing shop, it shouldn't surprise anybody when all of the anorexic ASCII snobs - us - turn around and start snickering at that awful, tasteless picture.
