So I just had my first siege.
« on: March 29, 2009, 03:40:15 pm »

AHAHA! HAHAAHAHAAAAAAA! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! MWUHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA! Mwahahhaaaahhhaa! haahahahhaaa!!!  Mwuhaahha.
Okay, that's done. I had 7 marksdwarves on the wall behind fortifications, no raised bridge.
The gobbos didn't even reach the traps, in fact I nearly consider this a defeat seeing how much iron I missed by letting them get away. (I can't find any ore at all.)
So, anyone else here who was disapointed by the ease of sieges? I know it's common, but I wan't to hear details here.

This is what inspired Better Goblins, the Orc mod, and the Hard mod. Try those out if sieges are too easy.

Screw that, have your 150+ dorf fortress, worth over 2million dorfbuks run out of food, then proceed to keep 2 alive and prepare for the next sieges.  :D

what makes everything harder and funnier with orcs that they dont flee when a soldier next to them die and the dont go unconcius all the time which makes them pretty just storm thru youre traps up to youre wall and cut the head of youre marksmen.

alot more fun because its a challenge. and why i got the orc mod was because my first siege ended with 4 goblins dead and 20 retreated, if they had continued i wouldve been dead.

I just had my first siege too. A squad of 15 showed up, and got decimated by my traps (I was completely overprepared, I had all my miners ready, my squad of elite marksdwarves, and my wrestlers). I had 5 captured by the cage traps, 4 killed by traps, 2 kills by wrestlers, and 1 by my marksdwarves, and 3 escape, which puts the casualty rate (The captured gobbos were used in target practice) at 80%, which is pretty good. Not a singe dwarf lost. Two unfortunate kobolds got killed by my pursuing marksdwarves, and another one was killed by a ranger who stumbled upon him.

Utterly, fantastic, if you ask me.

And thus did the dream of dwarven antigravity fade away, not with a massive explosion or a flood of magma, but with a whimper.

I'm going to be depressed all day now.

the best fun is figuring out how they run away, and putting the traps there :)

get the cagetraps ready though- you never know when a zombie titan will stop by for tea.

1. Try lowering bolt and arrow damage to 20 or 30- the firing rate of the crossbow/bow is outrageous and the main source of the imbalance.

2. Traps are massively massively overpowered. You never really need an army at all if you spam traps. Try giving goblins [trAPAVOID] or else relying on them less.

Remember, dwarf fortress is a mod-friendly game! If it's too easy, you have the power and tools to change it.. ;)
