40d11 Named Wild Animals
« on: March 29, 2009, 11:46:51 am »

There is a named Giant Bat who became so after killing a bunch of merchants.  Anyway, the bugger managed to fly into my meeting hall.  No one attacks it.  This includes tame animals (including my dogs), my military (they are set to harass dangerous animals).  The Giant Bat just has free reign to slaughter everyone.  It is just picking them off one by one.

Did you happen to catch and tame it? Was it listed as "Hostile" on the unit list?

Wild animals will aquire a name after killing something somewhat important, like a dwarf or a trader. In some cases, merely being on the map for a long time (as is often the case with chasm creatures) can grant a creature a name. Not a bug.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

I beleive the issue is that nobody is doing anything about the bat tearing dwarves apart, not that its been named.

Sounds like these, all of which mention cave fliers like giant cave swallows and cave swallowmen:

Weird pattern.  I don't know what's special about cave fliers.
