I tend to agree that if you can run a different fort, that heat is probably not the problem.  So I retract that diagnosis.

But I don't think turning off DEP is the answer.  I don't think that at all.  You turn off DEP for badly written programs which need to execute code in memory areas not tagged as containing code.

That's not what's going on here.  So don't turn DEP off, it will leave you more at-risk of infection by malware.

That link I provided is to the Dwarf Fortress File Depot. It's a great place to upload things like this. You will need to sign up for an account, I believe.

Theoretically the save file should be in your df folder\data\save, but if I remember correctly Vista stores saves in a different place for some reason. I may be wrong, though, so look there first. Zip up the appropriate folder and upload it there.

Well, he can turn it on again, after he has stopped to play with DF. It's worth a try.

i click upload put in the information but when i go to look for the save there is a lot of files in the world 11 folder
which file is the one im looking for

The whole folder is the save file. Upload the entire world 11 folder.

You might need to compress it into a .zip or .rar file first.

I assume Vista has a compression utility built in, but I can't trust Vista. Try right-clicking on the folder and there should be an option like "compress" or something. It might be in the "send to" menu as "zip file" or something of that manner.

If that doesn't work, I suggest using Google.

Personally, I'm suspicious that it might be a RAM problem.  I don't know a good memory test program, but it's -very- common for some applications to trigger bad RAM while other applications don't, even when they seem to be using the same amount.  I've seen references to programs like memtest86; you might search on that and let it run for a couple hours or overnight, see what it does.

I'm unable to test it, as it needs the catmouth mod, and I hate screwing around with body parts. Anyone else? This would seriously be more likely to get Toady's attention if you posted the save in your thread in bug reports.
