Making Elves MAD!!
« on: March 26, 2009, 04:44:52 am »

How do you do it? I can't seem to make them mad no matter WHAT I do...

Clearcutting the map every year for 5 years... nope.
and stealing thier entire yearly trade goods? Nope.
And THEN killing off all but ONE from thier party? Nope.
repeatedly offendingthem BEFORE stealing from them? Nope.

Seriously... these elves are really hard to piss off...

keep killing the caravans a few more times
eventually they'll lose their hippiness and come go all medieval on your dwarves

Elves die so fast, it's amazing to watch a single, barely trained, axedwarf, go through an entire elven ambush as if they were groundhogs.

But then, life was also easier when I was running around here pretending to be a man, so I guess I should just "man up" and get back to work.

Do we have to leave any alive, or can we just wipe the lot out to get the stuff?
I have a device set up to flood the trade depot at the push of two levers, and after the third use it's now working perfectly. I don't WANT to leave them alive.
Plus I'm clearcutting huge swathes of the map to fill immense stockpiles of wood.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

Did you kill the diplomat?

Im thinking you flooded the depot and the one you left alive was the diplomat, since they like to run everywhere and annoy people.

Dead diplomat = super pissy civ

That's deliberate; they're the lemmings of DF.

Look in your legends sometime. It isn't unusual for an elf horde to attack a fort of a hundred dwarves, dying by the hundreds but eventually overcoming them by sheer weight of numbers.

Now, once the army arc is complete, you can look forward to seeing that in the actual fortress mode. :)

By what numbers for Armok's sake? I've had my Legendary Axedwarf kill whole sieges of goblins by himself. How can a fort of 100 dwarfs fell to pathetic elfs? Whole military went to have a nap?

Not nearly all of them are soldiers. Even the ones that are are <No Title> fodder. Your own grunts on the other hand are ridiculously quickly trained superhumansdwarves

I've gotten fed up with their nothing-but-cloth policy to the point where I'm using dtil to torch them, just to see if it pisses them off enough to either ambush or else bring something useful.

Sorry? DTIL??

Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)

I just genned a world in which the elves are at war with the dwarves.

Yippee! ;D

I've modded in a couple of other races, though, which might explain it.

It's not horribly uncommon, especially on the largest sized world. Probably quicker to gen a dozen of the default sized ones and check through then wait for someone to post a seed.
