16x16? You using a computer from the future or are you just really damn patient?

Same question here.

Both. My FPS fluctuates between 10 and 35, so it's not too bad.  I should try something a bit smaller, but I've been doing 16x16 from the start and I like it.

And I don't have any magma at this site, elves don't settle anywhere near mountains.  They leave that to the dwarves.

OMG, trees with names..!
You know what that means, when a nameless creature gets a name? This means that each one of them had killed a dwarf! Burn the abominable forest! Let none live. And don't forget to unleash dwarfen cleansing on their hippi masters

It's quite clear what happened here, the elves used their abominable dark magic to cut down any dwarves that wandered into their fortress, by causing the trees to fall over on them. They then cast another spell to set the trees back to the way they were, setting it upright and cleaning it. We finally have undeniable proof of their treachery, burn them!!!!

Trees with names is awesome. I'm naming all the trees on my property, and then training them to kill and eat trespassers.

In other news: Elves remain lame.

I can't burn them, I don't know how.  If someone would tell me a surefire way to burn them without magma (my map lacks magma completely) or a thermonuclear catsplosion (I don't have enough cats yet), then I would be grateful.

Trees don't burn in brushfires, see. They could burn if you had a sustained fire nearby, say, like a burning piece of charcoal, but that would require magma to light.

To start a fire, you need a fire-breathing creature like a fire imp or a dragon, or magma. Seeing as how you don't have magma, you'll probably have to wait for a dragon to come by, if any are still alive. If there aren't any dragons, then you won't be able to start fires unless you add a firebreathing tag to dogs or something.

What about a booze explosion?  I think I could make a food stockpile that only takes booze of a certain kind, get all of my booze of that type in there, then forbid the dwarves to walk in the area around it.  Then I could edit the raws to make the booze explode or something.  I don't really know, maybe I should just chop them down.  But I kind of want to keep them there, beacuse it's cool...and the elves are almost all dead by now anyway, they keep getting their butts kicked by goblin ambushes.

Magma's not like underground rivers or HFS and can be found all over the place - I used to always have my builds on nearly flat plains with a river running through (for various uses, including the obvious one of a moat) and I always deliberately looked for a river tile with magma, which wasn't actually THAT hard to find. Meant sacrificing the cave rivers and other goodies from mountainous regions, but it still kept me entertained :)

There are three things I know about dwarves:
1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

This is war. When Abyssdepths is finished, we'll be finding those damned elves, and keeping ears.

There is only 1 logical course of action as far as I can tell.  Build a thin tower to the sky.  Build a walkway/gangplank out until you are directly over the middle of the elven settlement.  Create a bunch of 1x1 chambers with trapdoors underneath them.  Place a cat in each chamber.  Set the cats on fire.  Place pressure plates throughtout the elven encampment to randomly open the chambers above.

Presto:  raining flaming cats.

Why not replace the cats with a Dwarven Nuclear Reactor (tm) surrounded by booze barrels?
