Dwarven Suburbs
« on: March 23, 2009, 03:37:23 pm »

Has anyone ever made little lots for there population?

I'm thinking a small room with a couple beds and a stockpile of food, and some furniture. then a small open area(lawn) with a statue or two(statue), and a shed(workshop) all fenced in, and assigned to a single or married dwarf couple? I think you would need a somewhat large hauler population to deliver booze and other meals.

That's what DF needs, The gutbuster brigade.  Screw that elf and his cat. Thibbledorf Pwent is the real hero.

Don't forget constructed iron bars as a fence.

This would fit perfectly with my underground city design.

Put the more well to do and important crafters in the new homes and keep the more mass production workers in apartments and in the crafting towers.

Of course going to need to keep the lava moats around each building.

Only problem with that is that dwarves aren't remotely intelligent about where they get their food and drink; they'll march all the way across the map to grab a barrel from some obscure stockpile.  Otherwise, though, that sort of thing is always a good time; on my current fort all my founders have three-room houses and nobles have courtyards.  If you use doors set to internal, this is a great way to boost room value while still playing with aesthetics.

Here's a challenge: On the lawn, muddy a single tile and make a shrub/tower-cap grow on it.
