Thanks, Areyar. The problem with my beer so far has been a lacking of carbonation, rather than too much. Not that I mind--I don't need a whole lot for my own personal tastes. Also, I find beer gets better with ageing, atleast for a few weeks to a few months.

I actually made a thread on brewing, somewhere on the Forums. Feel free to stop by and post in it, if you'd like.  8) It could use the traffic.

Next time, I'm hoping to make a strongly chocolate dark beer (will involve molasses, probably, and/or several different kinds of chocolate). Hopefully, it'll be drenable.

Eggplant/Aubergine is one of my very favorite vegetables.

My mousaka isn't bad, although personally I prefer it barbequed, or in eggplant parmezan. Stuffed eggplant isn't bad, either. I've had several very tasty incarnations of that. Also, eggplant relish is good.

Eggplant and mushrooms sounds interesting. Possibly put a stack of thin eggplant slices that have been sauteed in olive oil, and brushed with balsamic vinegar, between two big portabella mushrooms, and bake it till tender? The eggplant should soak up the mushroom liquor nicely. Better yet, add thin slices of ham/proscutto and provalone between the eggplant, and grill it.

"Kari" is apparently the (Tamil language) word from which the English word "curry" is derived (approximately meaning "sauce", I think).

As for Thai, I'm not a huge fan. Not hot enough, and I prefer to save sweet tastes for dessert.

I play the bass guitar and I'm currently vocals in a slightly shit band.
I'm ok at cooking stuff if you like cheese, bacon, potatoes and steak.
Green stuff has no place in the frying pan.

My hobbies are spriting, sleeping, (Does this count?) reading and eating cheese. (I love cheese! If I could I might change my name from ILikePie to ILikeCheese)

Where the hell have you been eating Thai food?  "Not hot enough"?  What, do you routinely munch on habaneros throughout the day?  Drink Dave's Insanity for tea?  Thai food is some of the hottest stuff around, if you know how to ask for it.

Just order your next dish "Thai-spicy".  Choose something with squid, as squid have a funny way of picking up more heat than other dishes.  Plus, the squid dishes I've had aren't as sweet as some of the other popular meals.  I believe the fried rice is also relatively non-sweet, but I don't know if I've ever actually eaten it.

Not sweet or aren't as sweet? I don't enjoy sweet and spicy (except for sweets spiced with, e.g., cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.). I'll try spicy squid, though, if I can get it in a nice, thick, non-sweet paste with lots of coriander, cumin, turmeric, fenugreek, mustard and pepper.

Yes, I am a fussy eater.

One of my favorite Indian cuisines is Punjabi. There's an authentic Punjabi restaurant not too far away, and the food is nice and spicy. Utah has a surprising variety of authentic cuisine restaurants. We've got a place that serves real (and completely awesome) Chinese food, and a place that does Vietnamese food (and has a whole line of flavored drinks, including Durian), and several places that serve real Mexican food. We even have a real fish and chips shop, and a store close to it that just sells tea.

There's a Thai place that isn't bad...I don't know if I'd say "great", but worth eating at. There's also a place that does real barbeque (which is a cuisine we can be proud of, in America). It's also not the best I've had, and it's somewhat expensive, but nice to have a couple times a year. Especially on cold nights, as they have a nice log fireplace in the room, and very high ceilings.

Unfortunately, I haven't found any good local places that do real Greek or Italian or German, which are three of my very favorites.

I ate all the chilis off the plants used to decorate the school tables, and I take my omelette covered in Sriracha.  And this is a down period for me, as the move to Norway kinda isolated me from most spicy dishes (such as the fresh and rather pepper-packed salsas we tend to make at home.  Damn I miss those...).  I'm certainly less tolerant than my dad, but I wouldn't say I'm as pepperphobic as John Q.

In all the time I spent in India, there was only one dish that set off my heat sensors.  Vegetable Manchurian.  This was in Hyderabad and Goa, however.  Might just be that they're not too keen on the hot stuff (but isn't the food supposed to get hotter the farther south you go?).

I still say that Tom Kha can be quite satisfyingly spicy if you order it right.  And squid is, of course, squid.


Now, Korean...  THERE'S some fun stuff.  Much easier to get them to serve you the right quantities of burning death.

Malaysians eat curry and the second spiciest chilli on earth for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and supper. And this is when we're not downing other spicy foods like Schezuan or Thai cuisine. Heck, one of my friends eats that chilli pepper raw as a snack.

I think the only thing I find "hot" would be this. You Western folk are all pansies when it comes to spicy food. Especially those guys who can't eat food because there's onions in them because it's too spicy... wtf?!

Interestingly, my friends and I went to a county fair once where there was a chilli eating competition and were barred from entering when we told them where we were from.

It was really depressing. Our plan was to not eat anything that day so we could eat for free there. We should have kept our mouths shut.

Another time was when we went to a deep dish pizza place and when I looked at the menu, there was something like "devil's tongue" pizza with a description of your eyes will fall off and you'll erupt in flames from the heat or whatever. So we laughed first and ordered that, extra, extra spicy. The staff was all like, "heh, these guys are idiots" but kept quiet when we ate the whole thing like it was ice cream.

Well, it's sort of hardcore when you treat a contest that's supposed to test your tolerence against insanely spicey food as an all-you-can-eat Buffet.

Sort of reminds me of that one Simpson's episode where Homer eats a pepper so spicy that it causes him to lose touch with reality and hallucinate wildly.

actually IIRC capsain (the 'hot' enzyme in peppers) is a very mild hallucinogen... I'm sure I spelled that wrongly. :P

I'm suspect I took a few of those home from Surinam where my (hindustani) father-in-law grew them in his garden.
Though they were rather more heartshaped and orange-red.
I conserved them in sugared vinegar, together with a bunch of yellow wrinkly ones I bought on a local market.
The yellow ones are not terribly hot, so I got a nasty surprise when I chomped down on one half of the orange ones...  :o :'(


Sleeping can be considdered a hobby only if you can do without, hobbies by definition are luxury activities.
Like breathing, more a lifelong job than a fun passtime.
Maybe an exception can be made if you sleep in extreme exces buy choice or somehow like a connoisseur.
