Replies:
SirHoneyBadger: I've brewed several dark belgian beers , but am planning to do a blond one next.
Pretty heavy stuff, as I don't have the space for a cool 'lo' brew, all were 'high' brews.
I had a bottle explode once, during the night, made a nice tan star on my bedroom ceiling.

The comment about just listing stuff is insulting, I pride myself on being ruthlessly blunt and honest about myself... yeah bad at job interviews. Though as ... mentioned: there is a tendency to list everything ever taken an interest in. But if you don't mention all the hobbies you still dabble in, we have a lack of communication. For example, I intentionally left out CCGs like magic, cause I have no longer any interest in them, but left in paintball and warhammer because occasionally I get out my brushes and paint a model, visit the GWS or go out for a weekend of mudcrawling. Just not every month.
Didn't know this was a contest. :)

Also do Warhammer and 40k painting/modelling but that fell under tabletop games, though I don't actually play much and have been neglecting it. Last time I actually played 40K, my models were stolen on the way home. :( stupid. got new ones, but not a complete painted army yet.
If ye'r into fantasy warhammer as well, visit the WH mod at civfanatics.com (I'll be arexack).

3d modelling (wings3d) I've done some, mostly as part of OXPing for Oolite, recently for civ4 but no models ever made it ingame.
coding: plist and custom scripting for oolite and python/xml for civ4.
(oolite has progressed to javascript, but I haven't followed it much recently)

cooking: I like to do my own eggrolls, vietnamese style mostly. Not many dishes besides chilli I make frequently. Just like to use all sorts of ingredients. Arabian, chinese, japanese, vietnamese, french quisines: made a nice coc au vin recently...it was truly decadent.
Never really tried currys indian or SEasian, my best friend has this as his specialty, I like the fierce tang and heat, but detest cocomilk in dishes. Most dishes contain it there.
Making sushi is fun, but I'm terrible at cooking rice.
Last month cooked a nice couscous with lamb, but herira soup I liked better. Filled soups and stews really are a favorite of mine. :P

Ah: I forgot a hobby: like to mess around with electronic components. Sometimes planning robots, but never actually building them. Planning on cobbling some lights together to emulate fireflies. using only analog components...at least no PICs etc.
Maybe using solarcells ripped off gardenlights, but these don't work during fall/winter indoors.
(modern efficient lights give no power! ) I'll combine them with those electric tealights for a flicker effect and use them outdoors.

This post is wayyy too long.

oh: and DF...obviously.

I laughed at this, cause I don't even play DF anymore.

I'd hop back onto the Toady Train in a heartbeat though if he'd just finish the next version already!

Yes! I wanna use the new definitions to make a Keronian mod. I'm even getting ideas for castes and stuff, because seiges will be fun when some of your fortress citizens can shoot lasers from their mouth.

I don't play games at all, except for browser-games, let alone DF, lately (wish I could!). My 2 laptops broke within just a few months of each other, and the only computer besides my secure work one (no downloads, period, ever), is my wife's badly mangled and primitive laptop.
I'm buying a new computer. A friend of mine is putting it together, for just the cost of parts, but it's still going to end up costing close to $1800, and I've only got a thousand saved right now.

Considering my budget (I've got a wife, a mortgage, and a rather expensive gardening hobby), it'll take me about 8+ months to save up the rest.

Areyar: I hope you didn't take my comment as an insult. It wasn't intended to be. It's just a trend I've seen happen, find funny, and that I've followed myself, many times.

There's a lot of other things I do, have done, have thought about getting into--but--aside from this Forum being a hobby, in and of itself, cooking, gardening, and writing (when I can write) are my main focuses. Being limited in my time, I find that anything more is too big of a distraction.

Dark beer sounds yummy--the darker the better for me. I did a nice blonde one for my first attempt, but I'd like to try porters and reds. My wife wants a nice German "oktoberfest" type beer, so I may make one of those, too, pretty soon.

I'm counting brewing as cooking, though.  :P

The way to defuse me is to say nothing involving what you don't want me to say.

Otherwise you are just egging me on anyway. Perverts take no as yes you know.

So, WD, how is your 40k mod going?

And, anyone read Gaunt's Ghosts?

Yes, but I don't really rate Abnett (Gilead was alright, and the Eisenhorn books were better). Cain is the better Commissar of the two, Flashman is still superior.

Um. I like to read. I like cinema, and various music-related activities. I like playing games (cards; boards; 40k/Fantasy/all "Specialist" games, when I can find the time; RPGs) and hanging around with friends although I don't currently have any.

Areyar, you should really give "Indian" cuisine a try! Tomato purée or yoghurt are acceptable alternatives to coconut milk sauce bases (which I think is more for milder curries, and Thai/Malaysian/etc. dishes, anyway), and there are plenty of recipes that don't include a kari.
(then again, my attempts at "Indian" cuisine are no doubt wide of the mark, as I allow a great deal of (ahem) "personal creative flair" to modify the recipes (which are usually only a representation of some old family reference, to be fair). When in doubt, I normally just throw another fist of cumin seeds at it!)

Terrible. It went down hill the moment I realised someone was already making one for the general public.

It made me go to some extremes for my Private one and...

Well thats a story for another time.

Ah, no, Badger, as you can see I'd edited my post to be more nuanced and actually agree with yur observation. 't was rather the other poster that did not add anything but a suggesting the earlier posters were lying, that I took offence to.

I'm partial to the sweetish dark beers myself, cool to find a fellow brewmaster on this forum.
A word of caution though: don't just add more sugar to make the beer sweeter, when bottling use an artificial sweetener or work with a caramelized malts(?) from the start. n.b. the exploding bottle event happened because I added a double amount of sugar for the 'afterbrewing', I used very solid bottles too (know Grolsch beer?)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

also: I still have a few bottles left of that early brew, because the CO2 pressure is so high, it needs to be let out in stages or it will come out as a beam of yellow foam. ;P
Has quite the tang to it by now and when the sediment is disturbed too much, it tastes like I imagine sewer brew would. ;)

yeah creative cooking: did the same with that couscous dish I did a while back: couldn't find a mixture ...hira or something...looked it up online and replaced it with a mortar of garlic, cumin, chillies, koriander, half my spice seed collection actually.

yesterday added salted eggplant slices (mousaka style) to a simple lasagna as I didn't have any mushrooms... nice.
I'll try to create something combining shrooms with the eggplant sometime. Probably a ratatouille type dish served with rice. not tomato based but rather carbonata I think, fresh herbs and cream sause. And as my family's saying goes: "tastes better with grits" or "needs more bacon" whatever fits the occasion. ;)

Anybody here eat porc drippings on their bread?  With mollasses and preferably some grits.
hmm...salty, fatty and sweet; a caveman's dream.

edit:
@soup_alex:
Didn't understand your reference to kari at first,
http://www.templeofthai.com/cooking/about_thai_curry.php
seems to be indian-style curry.
(The use of kemirri nuts in currypaste must be limited to indonesia I guess.)
I'm not a curryphobe or anything, there is a very skilled thai cheff in my hometown. Just don't like the taste of condensed coconutmilk.
Indonesian and chinese quisine is pretty much spoiled here, as it has adapted to local tastes. (hmm, fried pigbelly!)
Private diner parties are one solution to experience authentic taste, without travelling half the world.
Most ingredients are pretty easy to find nowadays. :D
Anyhow, I'll be sure to experiment, don't worry.
