Composting Stock Pile

Organic Matter can go here, such as rotten clothing or dead creatures, as well there could be scraps from cooking and such.

Items in this stockpile decay, then turn into a fertilized which you can use to fertilize your farms.

Once a carcase decays its bones separate as well so you can retrieve them.

This would be good if you could not make potash.

Good idea, but did people historically do composting?

Playing by the rules of History is not always fun   :)

Also, What history do dwarf's have, humans made there history up!   :D

The only history they have, is what we make up for them, or what has already been made for them.

I have no idea myself, i don't know enough on what dwarfs did and didn't do.

I'm just thinking about what would add more fun or depth to this current amazing game!  :)

I'm not really worried if my suggestions are historically correct to how we think about dwarfs.

Im sure composting dated back a long time.

Native American's used to add fish into there soil to increase crop yields.

I'm sure it even date's back to the ancient Chinese when they use to go poop in there rice fields.

Right then! I see no reason for this feature not to be in the game!

dude composting has been done since the dawn of time, when the first fish came out of the ocean and took its fist breath, at the end of its life it died and rotted away. It also fertilised the ground where it died. There is no technology level to this other than simply to realise that rotting matter helps plants

Mushrooms grow on compost... in RL all mushroom farming is done with compost...

Also composting this way should yeild 2x more, rather then ashes only yeild 1.5x more. Since composting takes a bit longer but also gives back to the soil more of the stuff it needs.

Well, that is just natural "composting" not intentional man (or dwarf) made compost which is what I refered to.

Sounds reasonable, but then again the raw materials for composting are more readily availible I think, or at least they should be. But then again again, for larger amounts of firtilizer one would probably want more specialized sources, like the current way or cattle.

So are you talking about "dump refuse on the crops" or are you saying "dump it on a pile, and then take from the pile once it's turned into proper compost"?

Seems to me that using compost underground would cause some HUGE miasma problems.  It should basically be unusable on underground farms, and just very unpleasant aboveground.

What im saying is have something decompose for a certain time, then it turns into raw fertilizer which can be used for crops.

Id say each raw fertilizer would fertilized 4 sqaures, something like that.

The fertilizer stock pile would work the same as any stockpile, it would be the players choice were to place it.
Using it underground would be bad, but thats the choice we should be aloud to make   :)
