New Guard

In anticipation for the new Guardsman to come out, I was wondering who plays for the side of the Imperials. The new models look amazing, especially the Lord Commissar and Sentinel. I was even thinking about buying a few eventually, like a Valkyrie, for my Marines.

That lord commissar is rather... Eh...

But if the new command squad is really plastic I bet I can hack up an AWESOME looking commissar from that officer.

It's about goddamn time.  However, the abundance of Catachan stuff on the site since the makeover has me worried.

Mark my words, the Guard Codex will go the way of the Chaos and Marine books -
No Doctrines
No Special Units
No Armory
Cadians and Catachans Only
Final Destination

I'm going to be right, and I'm going to be fucking pissed about it.

Possible.  Recognizing that Marines constitute like 95% of armies, the design/testers finally relented and started giving every army some options to kill Marines with.  Usually useless against other foes, but there's enough marines for it to be worthwhile.

I have confirmed a rumor, from the Penny Arcade forums, by way of other forums.  In a very smart move, one of the big pushes in the new codex is to expand all the vehicle weapon options to cover the myriad Forge World models and semi-discontinued variants.  Sentinels with missile launchers, plasma cannons, multi-meltas; Chimeras with autocannons; Leman Russ Exterminators, Conquerors.  I hoped for and expected exactly this, so I'm quite happy about it.  Best of all, the Sentinels at least now have a new, all plastic model box, with all options and upgrades accounted for in parts.

I would most likely cave in and actually get a IG army if that happened.

I was told the best way to play IG is to have an all-armor army. None of those pesky humies. Just good old tanks and artillery.

I would love to test it out, but I am too lazy to install VASSAL. And there is something wrong with having an Imperial Guard army...with no Imperial Guard.

The new sentinel looks like it has a missile launcher and a plasma cannon.

Really, with the hellguns, I think not. That is too powerful. No space marine has a gun like that, except for Sternguard.

Valkyries look nice. And with a twelve man carrying capacity, it will be good.

Bumping oldish Imperial Guard thread with relevant information For The Emperor.

The summary sheet from the new codex was recently leaked - I saw a copy of it on /tg/.  No real detail, special rules, limitations, or point values, but at least the range of dudes is confirmed.

Captains Al-Rahem and Cherenkov are returning as hero characters, alongside Creed and Yarrick.

Heavy Weapon teams are now one model (essentially a Guardsman with two wounds) to clear up the slightly confusing two-guys-with-one-gun rule.

There's something called a Heavy Sentinel with more armor to compliment the normal one.  DO WANT.

There's like seven or eight different Leman Russes, including the Executioner.

The infamous Griffon Mortar returns, hopefully remade to shut up the people who insisted on using outdated rules for it.

The Valkyrie is real, and a codex-stock unit.

The list has entries for Conscripts, Convicts, and Penal units of some kind.  It was translated from French, so it's not exactly clear.  Might be the Schaffer Penal Legion bit, might be the return of the 2nd Edition human bombs.

The listing for Guardsmen just calls them "Guardsmen", with no references to Cadians or Catachans anywhere.  I'm hopeful, however dim a hope, that something like the Regimental Doctrine system yet survives, despite the dumbing down of both Marine books.

Well, thats cool. Yes, I think there were the Scout(?) and Heavy Setinel.
Valkyrie looks good.
Is there Colonel Commissar Gaunt in what you saw?
Al Rahem...he was a Tallarn, right?
And I guess Cherenkov is a Valhallan Ice Warrior, right?

So I was just looking around on there, seeing if certain things I've heard were true.

They were.  If you're shelling out that kind of money for an army in a game, you might as well skip the game, hire some mercenaries, and send them on a mission against another person's hired mercenaries.

Now that I think about it, that would rule.  You could set up a big area and give them something they need to do, and don't tell them it's part of a game, set up cameras, and watch them fight each other.  Screw Warhammer, I want mercenary deathmatches.

"Wah, Citadel models are too expensive, I want to play with Lego men, wah."

Cry some more.  Even with GW's insane listed prices, you can build a 1000 point force for most armies for less than $300.  And used stuff and discounts are always available.

But a paid mercenary combat sporting league would be awesome.

Yeah. Space Marines are the easiest to get cheap. With two battle forces, and buying a Commander, you have over 1000 points, for $205.
