You bastards.  That map is awesome, but evil.  My first fortress lasted all of about 2 minutes.

Of course... that may have something to do with my dwarves' decision to turn up 3 levels above the magma, right in the middle of the splits in the chasm, and surrounded by beasties, including one very pissed off giant cave spider.

Right... this time I WILL get it!

My fortress is in the valley on the left side.  Safe and prosperous.

Immigrant waves keep insisting on appearing in the lower-right-hand corner, where they have to run past the chasm, the bottomless pit, and the magma pipe to get to my fortress.  Half the immigrants get killed by the GCS, a few more by troglodytes, giant bats, and other monsters.

But at least the survivors I do get are the ones that can run fast.

I to have a nice fort on the left side. had to be careful with it though because I set up a castle area but forgot to turn off getting refuse from the outside when final a siege ended and another did not just appear(3 years straight without trade or migrants just one siege after another of orcs!!!) and one of my guys went and found the nice spider for me who insisted that he stay awhile for a nice meal.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

Safe center starting zone (as seen in my DF Map-view), mostly left of BP, No encounters yet. Although, while working on a part of the entryway, one of my cats got caught in a GCS web, and somehow managed to escape. However, I was a little creeped out when the same cat accidentally made a new friend just north of my starting zone. Another GCS. I'm rethinking the entryway a little more now.

Reminds me of the old Smata Xomlox seed from last year. Place was totally sick (entire fort in obsidian) but no goblins :(

What version is this for? How do I import that text file?

I'm not sure how backward compatible it is, but it definitely works on (40d11).

Here's how to use the worldgen text that was posted here (I'm working from memory, so don't expect this to be word perfect):

1) Go to data/init/ and find the file called world_gen.txt.
2) Delete the contents of that file and paste in whatever data you want to use (in this case, the code section from the beginning of this thread).
3) Log into DF and Create a New World Now. It will use the parameters in the worldgen.txt file in the data/init folder.

Now, if we could only mod Giant War Eagles to carry crossbows, we could do strafing runs on the elves who sold the eagles to us in the first place.

Natural selection my friend.

Right, well, the problem with using a fresh vanilla copy is.... this map uses orc mod.  Which I'm not confident to get together on my own, and am asking for an upload.

What do you mean? This map only "uses" an orc mod if one had installed the Orc mod before generating the world.
In fact, a worldgen that had Orcs on it would not run properly if you played it with the vanilla version.

If you don't want orcs it should be simple enough to gen this world using the parameters on the first page without changing anything. If you want Orcs you simply NEED to put that together yourself.

Any way you slice it, you should gen it yourself.

So this is the dwarf heaven people have been talking about.  I'll have to start a new fortress (or at least another copy, not done with my current world now).  And I'll have to learn how to add the orcs mod, not too good at this stuff myself.

I recently moved to 40d11, genned a fresh copy of the map from the seed, and found the site successfully. However, by some miracle i seem to have genned a slightly better version  ;D

So far i have discovered a decent vein of hematite, and loads of obsidian. Another BIG plus is that i could trade for bauxite with the dwarf caravan! (however, bauxite is still not available on embark)

Unfortunately, there are some downsides; I have so far not discovered any flux or sand, and there are numerous creatures (GCS imps etc) roaming freely around. (This may not be a problem, but my caravan spawned very close to them.)

I've only been playing the map for about 2 hours, so i don't know what else there could be. If anyone is interested, i will post the copy i genned. I will check back in a couple of hours.

I supose if a dwarf is unhappy or hurt they might have a miscarriage. Perhaps we could experiment a bit.

I wonder if different Dwarven civs have access to different things. Which Dwarf Civ did you embark from?
Or did you do a different history seed, somehow?
