I have 78 dorfs, no nobles of any sorts yet. And I've been ambushed twice now.

Oh, and one of my kid napped children  came home. That was cool.

What? That shouldn't occur. How did it happen?

I think by 'came home' he means 'led a Goblin assault'.

They ones that come back tend to be particularly hardcore.

Yea, a ground hog notified me the child snatcher, and by then it was way to far for me to do anything sadly, so I wrote the child off as a lost, then a season later I noticed it said on the status screen, I still had two kids. So I went through and on the though screen of the elder sister, it said she was happy to be recently freed.

Finally after that I the protection wall was done for my outside meeting area.

Oh, any suggest for my first ever capture goblin?

He currently stuck in my dining hall for display but that not that dramatic.

Release him on a tiny platform high over your entrance.

I tried starting up here, however the civ screen said that I was at war with one dwarven race, and had "no trade" with another one. Apparently I started as a Human civ.....

Figured that was all good, until I actually embarked... *crash*

Any idea on how to increase workingness and dwarfness?

If you want to be practical, let your soldiers train on him, then cage him, let him recover and repeat till he's dead. For dwarfiness drop him in the magma.

Hmm. Necropost, but why doesen't this pull up the right site in 40d11? Decided to try it, and it won't give me the magma pipe.

The *large serrated steel disk* strikes the Raven in the head, tearing apart the muscle, shattering the skull, and tearing apart the brain!
A tendon in the skull has been torn!
The Raven has been knocked unconcious!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

World gen must be slightly different from d10 to d11.

I'm Still a Bit new to Dwarf Fortress but despite many tries I cannot seem to embark near the upper right hand corner close to what appears to be silt and close enough to the water/magma pool. Could anyone offer some advice on how to embark near it?

You always embark somewhere around the middle of the embark area, so you'll just need to move all your stuff up to the top right ASAP.

My may spots are never that bit though. Am I doing something wrong?

(??? - for one, you're not proof-reading your posts.)

You can change the size of your map before embark, the image above looks 6x6 or so.  (Much bigger than that and you start to need a better and better computer.)  There is not way to (reliably) embark where you want within that area - the game decides where you will land, and you play the cards you are dealt.

If you shift your embark area up/down/left/right on the local map, that will tend to shift the "center" - but even that's not perfectly predictable.
