Two men enter, one man leaves!

I live near some rough parts of Dallas.  On the local news, I caught a soundbite about something to do with cage fights at a high school.  I thought it was gang matches that staff were afraid to break up or something, having seen similar such events when I was still in school.

Nope.  Turns out, the Principle got sick of having to spare the rod on all the turf fighters under his charge, and decided to let them settle their disputes in true old-school fashion.  The campus officer would take the recurrent offenders to a security cage in the administration where, under close supervision, the students would duke it out for supremacy.

In other words, THUNDERDOME.

Admittedly, I can't say it's not an effective solution to student conflicts...

I'm... I'm speechless.

Does this mean that one day I can once again challenge someone to a duel, then pistols at dawn?

or should I invest in a sword and dagger?

Sigh. This is what happens when you rob teachers of all their authority over students. A teacher can't even shout at a student anymore without being fired.

Kids fighting? Arm them with deadly weapons and let them fight to the death in a controlled environment. The problem should sort itself out nicely. You could even charge for tickets! I like it.

Well, we haven't been swarmed with investigators because of all the pirate flags fluttering about.

The more I think about, the more I would have preferred Trial by Combat as a conflict resolution.  Beats the crap out of the sometimes multi-month bureaucratic runaround I had to put up with whenever somebody jumped me.

I live in Dallas and I am not surprised at all.
Correction:  I am surprised it hasnt happened earlier.
Second correction:  It probably has, under the guise of boxing or wrestling in days before the term "cage fighting" was coined.  Teenage boys fighting each other is a very old problem.
