Common?
« on: March 19, 2009, 11:17:26 pm »

Is it common to shoot a horse with an arrow and get the following messages:

The Horse's right lung has been pierced!
The Horse's left lung has been pierced!
The Horse's heart has been pierced!
The Horse's liver has been pierced!
The Horse's upper spine has been broken!

First arrow I've ever shot, first adventurer I've ever played, first horse I've ever seen in my adventure.

Edit: the horse's friends got angry and my next 20 messages were:

horse breaks child's finger
horse breaks child's finger
horse breaks child's finger
horse breaks child's finger
horse breaks child's finger
horse breaks child's finger
horse breaks child's finger
horse breaks child's finger
horse breaks child's finger
horse breaks child's finger
horse breaks child's leg
horse breaks child's leg
The Horse Kicks The Child In The Lower Stomach,
It explodes in gore!

I'm going to be sick...

Welcome to Dwarf Fortress!

Enjoy your stay.

Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like different coloured blocks.
Seems to work fine with my copy. As soon as I loaded the human caravan came by and the world burst into fire.

No, this is welcome to adventure mode. And yes, I will enjoy my stay.

Time to go shoot some GCS's with some irons, and 1shotkill em!

Have fun!

You've never seen your Marksdwarves shoot someone through the heart and both lungs in Fortress mode?

But not the liver and the spine!

So ends the story of my hero. He was cold, so started a fire and ran around in it until he was no longer cold.

He later bled to death from blisters/fire/incineration.

Your logic-bending arrow was particularly logic-bending!

Why did the horses inexplicably slaughter a child?  Is blame shifting a new adventurer skill in the latest release?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Well, if you had a lucky shot, at a certian angle, and it penetrated far enough, with a good enough bow and a good amount of luck?[

And thus was born the magic arrow theory.

hasn't toady allready reduced the tendancy for jfk like magic arrow events? i can recall very old discussions about such stupidity as hitting someone in the eye, brain, heart, liver, lungs, guts, both hands and a leg before. at least skelodwarf's arrow hit everything in one body section.

No, your adventurer was using Glaser Safety Bolts
« Reply #12 on: March 20, 2009, 11:05:56 pm »

It's not that the bolt is traveling some convoluted path that takes it through every major organ in the body.  It shatters/splinters on impact, sending shrapnel throughout the body.

At least that's how I always rationalize it when a single bolt takes out the pancreas and both eyes.
