Anyone else done with Family Guy?
« on: March 17, 2009, 10:53:31 pm »

I've enjoyed the show in the past but this season has been pretty bad. A few mediocre episodes, too many rehashed jokes, too much time spent on pointless filler.

The combination of playing the Christian Bale tape and Stewie's music video a few weeks ago really ticked me off, and the Conway Twitty thing in the most recent episode was the final nail in the coffin for me. If I tune in to a show, odds are I want to watch that show. If I want to listen to 20 to 30 year old music I'll hit up iTunes or Napster or something.

It's not even like they're incapable of writing decent stuff anymore. I though O.J. tossing Stewie like a football was great. I'm just not willing to watch 17 minutes of filler material for one or two decent gags.

The mistake was watching the show in the first place, all the episodes boil down to either trying to be "wacky" too damn hard or making jokes that last far too long.

The whole thing with jokes that run on too longs was funny...once.
To be honest I stopped liking the show after it came back on the air, even going back to watch the first seasons I wasn't really able to handle the jokes. Sure there's a place for stupid humor but to me it felt like a waste of time to watch them.

Filler? Family Guy doesn't exactly have a canon continuity, so it can't exactly have filler. Unless you're using a definition I don't know.

Filler? Family Guy doesn't exactly have a canon continuity, so it can't exactly have filler. Unless you're using a definition I don't know.

Music videos, scenes from other TV shows,  playing entire songs from other shows, musical, productions, movies, etc, is filler. If they can't be bothered to actually write and/or animate a portion of the show but instead fall back on previously produced material (some of which they did not produce) then they are using filler.

The Conway Twitty crap was filler. The gag has been used before. It uses material that the FG writers did not produce. It is an area of the program which required minimal effort as no animation is needed. It is included to eat up air time. Hence, filler.

I thought the conway twitty thing was funny, but what do I know, I barely watch TV anymore. Only programs I like are the Daily Show and Colbert Report.

People who think Family Guy is funny are people I try to avoid.

I used to think Family Guy was funny, until I realized that all of their humor was essentially stolen from other sources. Basically, Family Guy is comedic plagiarism, and so I don't watch it out of principle. Also because it's a piece of shit show.
