Escape key won't work
« on: March 17, 2009, 06:22:37 pm »

I have a mac book and I have been trying to use the escape key and it does nothing. (the key works fine in other applications) If there is another way to change the key bindings can you let me know? an if there is another issue here do you know how to fix it?

You should be able to get the options screen to pop up by trying to close the window. Then you can arrow down to key bindings and change it to a different key from there.

If that doesn't work, you can also find your Dwarf Fortress folder, then go to data\init\ and edit the interface.txt file that should be there. Look for the line that reads "[OPTIONS:ESCAPE]" and change the "ESCAPE" part to a different key. Note that it has to be in uppercase, so you'll have to use "SHIFT+<key>" if you want an uppercase letter. I'd suggest setting it to "KEYC0" (that's a zero, not an oh), which should be the "`" key (the one usually found just to the left of the "1"). If that doesn't work, you could use "B", then just press (lowercase) "b" right away once loading the game so you can get the main menu and set it that way.

Any which way you do it, the option is labeled "Main menu" on the key bindings screen. Don't forget to press "s" in the key bindings screen to save your changes!

(EDIT: You could also try setting it to the escape key again once you get to the key bindings screen. Maybe it somehow got messed up and that will fix it.)
