The fort bragging thread
« on: March 16, 2009, 03:08:36 pm »

I've been wanting some comments of established players on my fort for a while now,  and I guess other people may want some reactions to their efforts as well, so I hereby make a thread for that stuff.  Here is my current mountain fort. http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-5039-thestonesoftunneling

It seems you're off to a good start there, in many ways  :D

The site you've found looks absolutely fantastic, and that plateau on level 20 with the opening of the magma pipe just screams potential.

Your entrance to the depot looks almost exactly like my entrances usually look, I like it ;D I was always of the opinion that you should try to work with the environment you have, and not terraform it overly, and I think you have the potential to build a great fort in this site.

My own fortress: http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-5058-roomtyphoons

Suggestions and opinions welcome  :)

Edit: Changed the link to a newer version of the fortress.

Ivefan, that Bauxite temple of your is probably one of the most epic ways to throw things into magma I have ever seen.

Also, my current fort, Tomeheaven (http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-5040-tomeheaven#lastComment;?%3E) is going pretty well.  However, what just made it brag worthy was my first siege on that map (8 hammers, 4 wrestlers), arrived just before a completely intact, epically named Bronze Colossus. Not only did I get my first truly messy bloodbath, I also got the best mega beast in a cage  ;D   Hopefully I'll get something fitting built to house Eli Sculpturelords (the Awe-inspiring Razors) before my annual spring update.

Anyone got a fortress at 200 dwarfs they'd like to show us? I've never actually seen such a fortress in full tilt.

My fifth fortress. Not the best fortress I know, but it is my largest and longest running. Also, she currently has a population of around 246-248. Map size was 8x8 if I remember correctly. Unfortunately that was one of the few locations with a river and magma that I could find and I really wanted to try getting a magma economy going for the first time. It is pretty haphazard in design and definitely not efficient but she seems to have worked out fairly well. Of special note is my aquarium trap beneath the entrance, death to many of gobbo kind.

I have a wonderful shooting gallery for my Marksdwarfs, they're not content with shooting inert targets oh no...

I have a line of grates bordering a underground river so they marksdwarfs can commit watery genocide, the underground rivers ran red with the blood of many giant toads.

Best part was that further down the river I had screw pumps, if there was a little more blood I could have irrigated my tower-caps with blood rather than water.

On the engraving is an image of Cheese.

Well, mine took an absurd amount of time and planning. Heck, I neglected most fortress needs(Beds, dining halls, etc) until I had the relevant structures up.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Kinda funny you should mention that, if you look at my map there is a little hole in the ground just outside the fortress walls.  That little hole use to contain all the beds, tables etc. for the initial 7 dwarves... tight fit :P
