This behavior comes straight from the stone age. Women were precious. They could make more warriors to go club the other tribe. Women were sacred and guarded.

If you want something you can understand, the Krogan in Mass Effect.

Of course, this will stop when we're able to clone...

"Hehehe, now we just need to insert 1000 tons of Plutonium, 3000 pure Carbons, 302 lt of Phosphorus... To make 5000 soldiers! Go forth, and conquer that lab-fortress, my loyal servants!"

Radical feminism. Thats the phrase I was looking for. I agree that the original feminism movement is liberal.

About the door holding part. Most women I hold the door for, since I have relatively little experience with pulling out chairs for anyone other then my GF, are pleasant about it and typically just accept it, with maybe 1/3 perhaps smiling or generally showing signs of appreciating it. However, theres that 1/10 of 1% that treat you like s*** if you do it, and that 1/10 of 1% really sticks out as being totally uncalled for. But then again, with all the drugs in our water, men are becoming hormonally feminized and starting to think being abused is right.

By hormonally feminized I don't mean that women are weaker or anything, merely that testosterone and female hormones don't mix well.

It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

As I said however, most women and most feminists don't feel this way; most will consider it simple courtesy.

In my experience, normally two points are considered here: is there reason to believe the holder would hold the door for another man as well? If not, hackles may be raised; if it's simple courtesy there's no reason to distinguish between genders.

Or is the door holding meant as low-grade flirtation? If so, it should be treated accordingly, including antipathy if it is deemed inappropriate or unwelcome.

The theory behind this kind of attitude is called radical feminism and it has never gained mainstream traction. It's just that it's been about thirty years since second wave feminism faded away from being a major political movement (after you win, you tend to get on with your life).

More to the point, after society and the media devote themselves to hammering the notion that you won into your consciousness, you tend to get on with your life, regardless of whether you actually did or not.

For the record, I hold the door for anyone who will reach it before it would swing shut if I didn't hold it. It just strikes me as rude to let a door slam in someone's face like that.

Ditto. But you wouldn't believe how rude some people can be. I was called gay for holding it open for a guy.

Where I go to school, we have electronically locked doors and ID cards to open them. As a result, everyone holds the door for everyone.

The security measures are more to protect against theft than for the safety of the students. Aside from having hundreds of PCs in the school itself, the building is shared with a Nintendo developer that has access to proprietary technology and corporate secrets, and a warehouse full of consumer electronics. So as you can imagine, "campus" access is pretty restricted.
