Auto-Pause at Variable Idle Number
« on: March 13, 2009, 01:32:21 pm »

That was wordier than I intended.

For those of us who like to plan and then walk away to get other stuff done,
it would be nice to have an option that would auto-pause when a certain number of dwarves are idle. It would be SUPER nice if we could set that number ourselves.

I personally hate having more than 1 dwarf idle.

I think you mistake how often dwarves are idle.  Idle is the AI state of looking for a job.  Usually it only lasts a few cycles, but still if you set it to 5, any time 5 dwarves (1 idle, 2 just finished talking to each other, and 2 bumped into each other in the hallway and need to pathfind) were idle the game would pause.

Yeah I suppose I should be more specific.

It would be pretty damn hard to make it work the way I was hoping to.... Unkless its changed to. "Idle for X amount of cycles" or some crap like that.

Maybe I'm not giving out enough jobs, what I tend to do is set up all my shops, mining, what have you and walk away to do something else. (Laundry, etc.)

When I come back sometimes the jobs aren't done and I add more, no problem. Sometimes the little buggers get done FAST and I come back to my comp to 60 idle dwarves just sitting around the well.

At least they're around the well and not in it.
