Best game of 2008.
« on: March 12, 2009, 05:39:34 pm »

Throw your opinions people. From the games I've played, it has to be Left 4 dead.

Remember, 2008. I don't give a shit how much you think TF2 is way better than L4D, because TF2 came out in 2007.

Other awards I thought over.

Mass Effect. (Best RPG award.)
Mirror's edge. (Best FP (First person) experiment.)
Rise of the Argonauts. (Best aversion of "Lawful stupid" in an RPG, best mythological RPG.)
Crysis Warhead. (Best graphics vs performance. (Open to debate.))
Dead Space. (Best critical hit idea. (Limbs instead of headshots. That took some courage.))
Fallout 3. (Best post-apocalyptic RPG.)

Yes, I know my RPG awards are a bit of a stretch. But it'll be a bland topic without them.

I have to go with you there Yanlin. L4D is the best game of 2008.

I acctually hardly bought any games in 2008. I was at school and didn't have a job.

Now I'm just buying games like craaazy.

Mass Effect. (Best RPG award.)

Bioware has been going steadily downhill since the turn of the century. This game pretty much shows their writer's deterioration to Halo levels.

More like best totally bland Crytek FPS.

Fine.

Aahahaha, oh jesus, that's funny.

The World Ends With You would have to be my favorite portable game from 2008 (2007 if you count the Japanese version, This Wonderful World, instead).

Super Smash Bros. Brawl was pretty good. I actually enjoyed the Subspace Emissary. Mario Kart: Wii was also pretty nice. I don't think either really deserves to be called the best game of 2008 though. Brawl is probably be the best Wii game of 2008, at least of the ones that I played.

It's fun to make up completely arbitrary game 'genres' to promote your favourite games, isn't it kids! Try it at home, but remember to get your parent's permission first and if pain persists, you're obviously thinking too hard!

Also, I hear Mirror's Edge sucks.

Mirror's edge is not a great game, but it's a good EXPERIMENT. It's the first first person parkour game. It also does it rather well.

They aren't genres. I just felt like showing some appreciation to some of the better games of 2008.

Reiterating a note: My list contains only games that I have played. I did not play all of the games released in 2008. Obviously.

Don't get me wrong, I REALLY enjoy playing L4D. It has it's strengths and all.

But if that game really was the best release in 2008 (and it might as well be) don't you think that would be an indicator how sad a year it was for gamers?

Actually that can be said about a lot of 2008 titles  >:(

Oh come on. I consider L4D to be the best multiplayer coop game ever. Anyone willing to show me a better one?

system shock 2 coop mod. (I'm not kidding, that thing exists. I finished the game that way, too. And ONLY that way, btw)

Oh, and of course "The Lost Vikings".
Or a lot of multiplayerable dungeon crawling games.

the thing with l4d is... while the director AI is a good idea and someone FINALLY managed to create one (seriously, how long have we been thinking about it? and they act as if the idea was new -.-) the game still is very very shallow. there isnt that much to it besides point and click.

Its GREAT fun, no questions asked. I can play it 12 hours without breaks. But it's hardly even a full blown game.

Pirates of the Burning sea? Well it was released about a year ago and was good fun, miss it. Didn't buy anything else really that was new besides spore, processor requirements are getting to high these days.

TF2 was crud in my eyes, can't play anyways cause of my ati2dvg infinite loop problem.

Didn't even really pirate anything released in 2008.
