Magma farming
« on: March 12, 2009, 01:27:37 pm »

I started on a glacier and I have magma. The idea is to heat the farm plot by running magma under it. Will it speed up plant growth? Can I grow outdoor plants this way? Is it possible to build magma heated greenhouses?

I'll try it anyway, but I figured I could ask before - in case this doesn't work yet :)

As far as I know, temperature does not effect farms. Current wiki about temperature is empty, and the old wiki has some nifty experiments.

You need magma to melt ice to get water, that's as much as I know.

High temperatures do make outdoor water evaporate. Supposedly dwarves can get frostbite but again, no idea about facts.

With such a title, I'm disappointed with the contents.

Wheat fields make wheat, cotton fields cotton, magma farms...?

Magma also can be 'farmed' for: Dead nobles, burnt cats, burnt goblins, burnt elves, burnt humans, burnt dwarves, pressure plates, moats, volcanoes, fuck the world levers and HUEG pyramids of glass.

Odd how "Experiment" in DF is often synonymous with "Raging inferno of death and dispair"

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

Since he hasn't mentioned miasma, nope, does not qualify as Boatmurdered.

Seriously though, any DF experiment HAS to have miasma.

Screw magma fish. We need plants that only grow if you empty a magma pipe and start farming it.

But magma fish that cause fisherdwarves to burst into flames would be awesome.
