Make unconsciousness deadlier.
« on: February 13, 2008, 05:40:00 pm »

I think something like this has happened to many adventurers:

You manage to knock some monster unconscious, hit it five times, but only manage to break three fingers and two toes. (And to me, it happened the other way round with a giant cave spider, which took quite a few turns to kill me after knocking me out).

Falling unconscious in combat should be deadlier than that. Not only should unconscious combatants be unable to fight, they should also receive more hits in "vital" areas (head, torso).

Depends on how unconscious you are. If you pass out from pain, you're usually screwed. If you're knocked unconscious, you might survive. If you pass out from over-exertion, you'll have a chance to live, but hardly a chance to get away.

I've had (rather amusing, despite being so frustrating) occassions when I awaken from pain/exertion/paralysis for a frustratingly brief moment to do something frustratingly pathetic and pass out and die a few turns after.

Heck sometimes I notice passing out in a fight against something like 10 antmen or 50 undead groundhogs, that I wake up for a very short time and pass out again 1 line down the combat spam later.

I see that as waking up, "Oh look, I'm missing another limb." then going to sleep again.

Simply make it so you can take extra time against a helpless opponent, to deliver a coup de grace (dunno the correct diacritical marks) and make its head fly off in an arc. Or pierce its brain. Or throw a fly at it so it explodes into gore.

I agree that when someone/something is unconscious it should be much more likely that you will hit a vital area. Sometimes I'll manage to make an enemy pass out from pain and then my adventurer insists on simply cutting their toes off, one by one. I want to kill the enemy, not dice them.

dwarf runs out of ammo shooting a cow and so kills it (After several unsuccessful hits with a crossbow) by throwing a fly at it.

Use your imagination, this is Dwarf Fortress!  Also, that's not MS paint.  It's Adobe Photoshop!  The best game on Macintosh until DF gets ported!  Well I mean, aside from Bungie's old games.

I should have added focus lines to the bug like they do in anime...  :(

I assume it's a cowman, since it appears to be bipedal?

Two questions: How would you grib a bug while throwing it, and if you do manage to get a grip, can you throw it like a baseball?

Second, do bugs have the aerodynamic ability to both fly 50 yards, and then crush the object they hit?
