New Descriptions and Jewlery/Clothing
« on: March 11, 2009, 01:46:15 pm »

With the new description paragraphs going in, would this be a good time to implement wearable jewelery?

e.g. "Kikrost looks stately in his *iron crown*".

Likewise, if there is/was/will be a general appearance descriptor ("Kikrost looks xxdisheveledxx", etc. minus the indicator marks), could clothing/jewelery quality and condition have an effect on this?

That's a good idea. It'd be nice to see dwarves doing more with all the stuff they collect instead of just throwing them around their rooms.

Maybe nobles would wear crafts to give them happy thoughts. Wear crowns instead of hats, carry sceptars, rings instead of mittens.

Basically make it so that nobles use a different clothing set.

Head - Crown
Body - Robe
Hands - Rings

etc. etc.

Special Effects :

No reason why jewelry can't give pseudo-magic effects (only difference between a ring of +5 appearance of wealth and a diamond ring that makes you look 5 points wealthier is.... NOTHING)

Don't amulets, rings, etc. count as wearable jewelry?  It would be nice if they were in the raws, though.

I have noticed a rather mixed reaction with microcline, but what do people think of olivine?
Oh I love olivine.  I think dark green furniture makes the fortress tasteful.
Wait, what?

Can we avoid artificial game-y methods of implementing this at all? :P

I think jewelry is already wearable, yeah. Fortress mode dwarves are just idiots about clothing and personal item management.

C/D? I've never seen earrings or rings worn.

As actual in game descriptions, sure... talking about what tags and bits of code get added to an object to create an effect?  no

Find some worldgen people, they'll probably be wearing some trophies from their kills.

I've seen some invading sentients have dwarf bone earrings and the like. Never saw it when I examined their inventories, though.

Yeah, people in worldgen make trophies out of EVERY SINGLE THING they kill, apparently. I've seen some ridiculous screenshots of this.

Only people who like a type of jewelry should opt to wear it every day instead of just for festivities and the like. Loading up every dwarf with neclaces, rings and Prince Alberts quickly gets silly and sucks all the meaning out of the stuff

It probably shouldn't actually do anything. Except for maybe ceremonial use. Should dwarves use wedding rings? Maybe a necklace with a lock of hair from the partner
