The dwarf who lacked a personality...
« on: March 10, 2009, 09:44:33 pm »

I have a dwarf (Sorry, no pics.  I don't know how... :-\) that only has two traits.  Likes working outdoors and needs alcohol.

Has anyone else ever had a no-personality dwarf?

There is no qualifier for personality traits in the average range.  Meaning you have a statistical anomaly - a perfectly average dwarf.

Topics like this make me want to segregate my dwarves by personality and pretend that it makes a difference on their behavior.

I don't have a save scum of him.  He was one of my migrants and died with the first ambush that came his way.   Maybe I shouldn't have had him be a plant gatherer...

In one of my forts, my king has no preferred materials.
Helps a lot, because no mandates are made. :D

I have a soldier who guards my meeting room, apparently he "Views helping others as an imposition on own needs to get along with others" , "Considers spending time alone much more important than associating with others" and "Is socially crippled by thoughts that everyone is watching and judging him."

Zeph, your avatar's flashy lights make me spasmy.

So there's that, as well. It looks like the only chronic problems that water can't cure are nausea and cave spider bites.
Which, coincidentally enough, can be cured by magma.

You do not need to savescum. A dead dwarf is still in the (u)nits list, showing as "deceased", and his traits can still be viewed from there.

I like it when they have personalitys that make them dislike others because that reduces friendships and that reduces the chance of tantrum spiral when a slacker layabout get ambushed while gathering a -narrow cat leather thong- from outside.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

It's no difference, they'll just form grudges. And get unhappy from it. And tantrum. And die.

If you're lucky, you'll get grudges with dwarves unfriendly enough to actually start fist-fights. It happens.

Someone here had a count consort (or some other important noblewoman) whose personality traits were so whacked that she formed grudges constantly and got into fistfights with people all the time, getting happy thoughts from it.

I'd build her an arena and hold public beatings...

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.
