Being skillful doesn't stop your logic from being broken.

Sorry, but the law has to draw the line at where it believes anyone doing this will be reasonably safe. You say you're skillful, and the law should let you do it, but what about the idiots that DON'T know what they're doing, should the law just let them ride their bikes down public stairways also?

Puck, horrible logic and horrible physics knowledge. You cannot know how the bike will fall. It also depends why it falls. You overestimate your capability. Besides, it is enough that you bump into someone and chafe their coat, for you to get sued out of your pants.

Unlike your stupid endangerment of others, parkour does no such thing. At worst, I'll jump onto someone. I have trained on how to stop people falling over once I have rammed into them by accident. The best thing to do is grab their arms and pull them onto you. If possible, get behind them and support their back. This will ensure they don't fall. Of course, if you fall... You're in bigger trouble.

Parkour does not endanger the user if the user does it correctly. It endangers EVERYONE if the user does it wrong. Your bike riding down stairs is not only stupid, but against the law and dangerous. Parkour is not against the law as long as you do not tresspass or vandalize property. You also should not do it on private property such as cars. But then again, you don't need parkour to violate those laws.

Also, you spelled parkour wrong.

Yes, I pretty much know how it drops, since part of the training involves the falling, much like in every other sport. How it goes from the point where it left my grasp, THAT is the hard part to predict when on stairs. But I can tell you, when I would need to get off my bike on the stairs (which there is almost no reason for, apart from some important part breaking) I wouldnt let go of it, it would lie on it's side as soon as my feet are of the pedals. When I lead the bike down the stairs next to me, which is legal, its on its wheel, and the only reason for me to let go would be a stroke. So it would take right off.

I bet you folks never rode stairs, right?

Because riding down stairs on a bike is pretty much the same as riding down a slope at the same angle. With the proper wheels, of course.

So I guess we should outlaw riding bicycles up or down hill?

And before anyone asks, yes I have gone those stairs upwards, too, on the same bike.

oh and btw, just remembered, I once rode a race bike down the stairs. Maybe you guys would call it a "road bike". I dont knwo the correct term. You know, those things they use for the Tour de France and stuff. Curved handlebars and such. I pretty much knew it would break. But I was interested to see if I could be careful enough so it would make it. Too bad the brakes werent strong enough for that exercise. In any case, this was the ONLY time I ever HAD to get off the bike, while on stairs. And those bikes are the worst to get rid off in case of emergency because of the height of those things.

I just got off it no problem and continued to descent the stairs the legal way.

At worst, I'll jump onto someone.
:o The worst thing I would do, would be to stop.

I wasn't following this arguement at all. But I shall put my thoughts here again.

Parkour is fine, so long as your not endangering anyone other than yourself.

Oh and Edit: Puck, riding bikes down a set of staires isn't much like a hill of the same angle. gotta remember, you'll have alot less friction on staires as you do going down a hill. You have to be perfect in going down it on a bike, or one slight turn of the wheels and they'll land differently to your bike, and whoops, off you come. (I do mountain biking, so i know this stuff. And let me tell you, going down a set of staires at a 55 degree angle, is NOT the same as a hill :D)

There is always this argument with public healthcare and how we all have to pay for it (depending on where you live, I guess) but that opens a whole can of worms, like recreational drugs or the whole big brother debate.

Yes, Yes, I do mountainbiking too.

But do you also do trial? Do you have a set of 3 inch wide and 5 inch high tires with fat knobs and low air pressure just for the stair riding thing ? ;) With the proper equipment it can be a lot safer than going down a bone dry single trail at the same angle.

one slight turn of the wheels and they'll land differently to your bike, and whoops, off you come.
Doesnt happen, unless you do REALLY bad. If you get the right speed or are even when going very slow and are in contact with the stairs at all times, you can steer pretty much normally.

Not to mention I can stand still and pretty much turn around, too. Altough I dont really enjoy doing more than a 90° turn standing still on stairs. It just turns into work.

edit; Hey I just remembered this one incident where I didnt descent stairs cautiously so I wouldnt endanger anybody close by, but rather did a full bunny hop at high speed into the flight of stairs, because, well, firstly because it feels hella cool, secondly because I can, and partly because I was listening to fast music.

I checked out the according flight beforehand, it was empty. those 20 seconds later it wasnt. I pulled the bike away from the girl and her dog mid air, landed on my side (thankfully without injuring myself in the process) and never let go of the bike during the whole crash. I never even touched her or her dog...

So yes, I'm pretty confident, at walking speed I will NEVER hurt anybody while going down stairs.

Here's your answer Puck:

Use the elevator for disabled people.  You have a heavy, awkwardly shaped load to carry downstairs.  That's what the elevator is for.

Hmmm, judging from the smell in those subway elevators they seem to be for something else entirely  :-\

Look, if you're afraid of a little hobo pee, you've got no business going in the subway at all.

So you got choices- barrel down the stairway and cause horrible injury to bystanders, wheel cautiously down the stairs and get ticketed by Barney Fife, lug your bike and both defeat it's purpose and bang your limbs on things, or breathe bum urine fumes.

And now you know why I don't ride a bike.

Fact: Aqizzar doesn't ride bikes because of Bum pee.

I opted for having a closer look for cops before going down slow, and when there are no people around the way I'll be going (with some extra room for a tasty crash factored in, at the bottom) I'll race it.

I'm actually a very reasonable person  ;D

But really, in this city here, the elevators are the only place smelling of hobo pee (and puke). The trains are actually considerably clean  :o
If they aren't, surprisingly it usually aint pee, but a big fat dump somebody took in there  ???

Puck. You are endangering the lives of people AND violating the law. How the hell do you expect to win this argument? It is ENDLESS more dangerous to ride a bike than to carry it down stairs. Or up stairs for that matter.

I don't need to be a professional mountain biker to realize riding down crowded stairs is dangerous.
