Well, here comes the long post.
State of the fortress
To the left are the suites, where Barbarossa and Skelodwarf live. Each room has an extra bed, waiting for the day when each dwarf marries.
The other rooms are for the general populace, and are each equipped with a bed and a cabinet. Soon, each room should have a chest.
The alcoves in the walls await a day when masterwork statues will prevent riots and death.
At the mouth of the fortress, much craftsdwarfship is carried out. Along the margins, wood, ore, and food (not to mention a few sparkly gems) are piled.
In the smaller squares, workshops are built.
Yes, there is a fey dwarf. Unfortunately, no silk means no getting out of that room for him.
To the far left, there is a barracks and a mica-furniture factory. (mostly for making visible doors.)
Farms. This is where the dwarves of Ardesfuth get their raw materials for edible solids.
In this massive cavern, furniture is stored in heaps, animals and empty cages pile up, food lies in jumbles, and precious wood is stacked. To the left, the entrance to the cassiterite mines yawns.
Close to the stairs there are 4 pumps set up for the squad of four farmer-type dwarves that are training to be the elite (non-militia) army.
This hall is for eating, drinking, partying, and meetings. All it needs is the legendary engraver to engrave every available surface.
The two narrow wings above and below the main dining area are the future tombs of Barbarossa and Skelodwarf, and they each contain a silver sarcophagus.
This 100% granite block road leads all the way to the map edge, allowing for safe trading. This picture doesn't show the current state of the road, but the borders of the road are surrounded with a moat, and the road may be crossed via a pattern of natural floor tiles.
Army Log
Log of Oddom the Herbalist, migrant leader-
We have reached the borders of the land of Ardesfuth, and we have seen the granite doors that hold the key to our futures. (note: Odd how we need to go through the door first to get the key...) As soon as the last of us enter, a nice looking dwarf named Skelodwarf shows us around, before telling us to pick up whatever we can and get our hairy arses out the door and fight off the encroaching Gastropod army.
Meeting with the rest of my wave, excluding the four chosen warriors, we stand on the road ready to do battle.
The slugmen charge, and we meet them head on! (well, it's not like we have weapons...)
They are running! We chase them down the brook...
Now that the gastropodians are dead, the best-looking dwarf in the fortress, Barbarossa, welcomes us inside, where we are assigned duties and rooms. Barbarossa feels that we need more food to keep us new migrants alive, and we are sent forth to scavenge.
In a massive rush, we sprint outside to gather every known plant in the area. We are so through that the only plants that haven't been ripped up are the trees, the grass, and some dead prickly things that we accidentally ran over getting to the other plants.
Two weeks later...
Things have settled now, but me and another herbalist have been sent on a scouting party.
AMBUSH! (ooc: not the official kind) The Gastropodians have sent two snailpeople to destroy our newfound home! We must massacre them and send them to Armok's magmafall of doooooom! I strangle one of them while my comrade splashes around in the gore of the first.
As soon as this menace is cleared, we hear a shout coming from the shrubland near the brook. My comrades and I meet up once again.
Yet again, we smash (squish?) them with no casualties, only one or two scraped fingers.
Much later...
My wave and I feel completely at home and helpful among these dwarves. We grow most of the food, make the most wooden crafts, and we smelt things! What a wonderful pla- OH NO! Another wave of slugmen, just when I thought they were finished!
Instantly, my entire squadron beats the living (not for long) goo out of the invaders.
*Bloodstained Page*
There will never be rest among the herbalists... we are each nearly unskilled, and the resources of the Gastropodians are limitless. How long we can survive by sheer numbers is hard to tell, but we must fight on!
