Ardesfuth (Succession)
« on: March 08, 2009, 12:01:33 am »

As this will be a succesion game, we'll need some players first. If you wish to take part, please P.M. me. The first P.M. by timestamp, will be the 2nd player, who'll replace me. The 2nd P.M. via timestamp, will be the 3rd player. All other P.M.'s will unfortunately be voided. When the 2nd player starts, I will once again open my mailbox to P.M.'s, where only the first to ask will be given the spot.

Although this may seem rather competitive to get a spot, it's only as a precaution so we don't end up with players who can't actually take part in the game.

Each turn will be a year, and in the event of a total death, we will revert to the most recent save.

This Is Where We Stand:
2 Proficient Miners
1 Proficient WoodCutter
1 Proficient Carpenter
1 Proficient Mason
2 Proficient Growers, one of which is also a Proficient Brewer.

Provisions:
2 Copper Picks
1 Steel Battle Axe
Iron Anvil
Dwarven Ale, Rum, and Wine. 20 of each.
30 Plump Helmet Spawns
25 Sailfin Molly
18 Plump Helmet
3 Copper Crossbows

4 Dogs
2 Cats

And off we set, with the prestigous name of...
The Exploration Group: The Salve Of Spring (Sibrek Bekom)
In The Fortress: Authored Sack (Ardesfath)

Here is an image of our region, in mayday graphics:

(Yes, for some-reason the image appears to have 2 or 3 "Folds" in it, or something, anyone know why? Anyways, what it took off isn't important anyways)

Also: Just so you know, on the local map (area selection area) this is 5x5. I remembered to lower it some for less intensive, I just enjoy the largity of maps, so I usually pick 7x7 or 8x8, but decided I'd tone it down for this.

Ill post my journal as I play through, at the end of the week, (sundays) control moves to the next player, reverting to the last save.

Ok, so we have our contestants, and I will start my game progress and journals as soon as possible. Or actually, now. Once I get to the spring save, I'll pack it all up and post the link.

Barbarossa will be my replacement, and Short_Dwarf, will be his.

Send more PMs when Barbarossa takes over.

Journal of the first spring:

We have made it all the way from the mountain home to our new home. We were chosen to set out on an expedition to find riches and send them back home for their coffers. We were selected as two miners, one of which is me, a woodsdwarf, a carpenter, a mason, and two farmers, one of which is also a brewer.

We have a good supply of food and seeds which will keep us fed through fall. We even have enough booze to get their as well. As for the winter, I don't know what were going to do, we already ohave our farms growing all the food we can, and they said that they would come and check on us at the end of fall, but I don't know what that means.

The expedition leader, our mason, has asked me to give him a general idea for what our fortress should look like. I told him that I wasn't much of an architect, but he insisted. I designed a basic plan with a main hallway that goes straight into the mountain. At the entrance I planned two rooms right next to eachother for rooms, so that travel could be minimized from both the farms, and the workshops to the beds. It's not very secure of a lay-out, but I doubt we will encounter many problems here, the atmosphere is so buoyant and bubbly. The only wildlife I've seen so far have been a few mountain goats.

Me and my mining friend have started digging out the fort already, and most of the basic layer is finished. We have a few workshops built as well, and the carpenter and mason have been busy making beds and doors. Nothing else. I wonder what our leader is thinking, surely we wont eat on beds, and surely we wont put our possessions in doors? I guess all these beds will be handy if we ever have enough dwarves in here to justify making an actual floor for sleeping.

As for my friend, he wasn't very helpful with the mining. He spent most of his time this season hauling goods back and forth, and I was left doing the mining. Generally this would infuriate me, but the practice is good, and I can feel myself getting faster.

As for the riches we've found so far, I am not disappointed. Just looking at the mountain from the outside, you could see gems sticking out of the side of it. Inside, It's even richer. I've encountered atleast 4 nodes of precious jewels. We even have specific areas designated for the placing of everything, so far we only have food and gem stockpiles though.

Here is a general map of what the fortress looks like so far, I'm sad to say I'm going to have to knock down some of the walls I dug out to get more jems, but I know that it is worth it tenfold.

I hate to go off the topic of the succesion story, but why do people think of 5x5 as big? Isn't 6x6 the default? It's what I play with at least, and I go 8x8 for megaproject forts.

8x8 might give me 8 fps  :P

nice fort so far skelodwarf, and I'm going to claim that disconnected mountain in the plain outside and to the south of the fort. Megaprojects will be thar!

(Oops, I don't have a seperate journal for summer, and fall. They changed it to fall without telling me)

Journal Of Fall and Summer.

Well, it's been a while since I've written anything, and not much has changed. The main floor has been completed midway through summer. Me and my mining buddy have had nothing to do until just a few days ago, when we started on a tunnel that leads below the main floor, I'd include a drawing of it, but I'm sure any readers of this can imagine a long granite hall.

I don't remember when it was exactly, but either at the end of summer, or the start of fall, traders came and took over our newly built Trading depot, they had some nice stuff, but none of it that we could afford with a small supply of resources.

All we've been eating is Plump helmets recently, and they aren't bad but it gets a little tiresome.

I went outside the other day, and noticed a project that must have been started when we arrived, but I only just noticed it.

What used to be a lush forest, almost impossible to walk through, now contains a gigantic clearing, devoid of trees. Instead, there are small piles of logs everywhere.

Nothing else of note happened, other than the discovery of a few more small gems. I'll write again at the end of winter.

Current Fort:

Export Agreement:

I just asked for some random stuff, here and there. Like food.

Also: The generic size on the local map is 4x4 squares.

Could the default be a matter of .ini changes? Mine is always doing 6x6's as a default, with a completely fresh game even.

I know you can change the default in the init.txt file. Mine came as 4x4 with Mayday's set though.

Mayday probably lowers it since I'm guessing that changing the graphics around slows it down a tad.

I'll just email it to you.

And it might take a bit longer, ran into some unexpected delays. (I found a pretty epic starting area.
