[40d9] Oscillating moody dwarf
« on: March 04, 2009, 09:23:35 pm »

One of my engravers began a strange mood, so I went to keep an eye on him. He crawled out of his hospital bed, headed toward the armory, and proceeded to do this:

He was moving back and forth between a high-traffic zone (below him) and a normal traffic zone (above him), so I normalized all the traffic in the room, but it didn't have an effect on his movement.

I don't think it's a workshop problem, as I have most of the common ones, and a moody dwarf in need of a workshop tends to stand still.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Maybe the mood was more of a suggestion than a command, so his survival instincts are kicking in and moving him back towards the bed, but as he moves the balance between "make artifact" overrides the "must rest" desire again, so he turns around to repeat the process.

'Cept of course you never find pools of pure adamantine lying about on the surface (though I wish you could!). ;)
We'll never get those lava fortifications up in time!

That's an unusually cubic mountain you have there.  Have you downloaded one version directly over another?

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

No I keep all my versions seperate; I don't think that sort of asshattery would asshat into existence such a feature, anyway.

I mucked around with a handful of the worldgen parameters, specifically the elevation x-variance and y-variance.

Now I have 110 z-levels to play around in. =D

Back on topic, I had another guy with a broken leg get a mood, and he proceeded to the workshops as normal. I think the problem lied in the high-traffic/normal traffic boundary.

You'd be surprised; my uncle got a totally random spiral of various rock coated with obsidian.
