The thing with an elevated goal (stop Americanizing the sport! ) is that it's a lot less likely to have stuff sent up to it, so it'd lead to a lot of boring games with no scoring at all. An underground/roofed pitch would keep all the parts on the field, and make it easier to score. Besides, if goblinball were an outdoors sport, it'd be undwarvenly.

Also, if magma is used in the goals, it'd be difficult to count the points of each side, given the bodies/parts would disintegrate upon touching the searing substance.

Elves, they are a foreign species, so are the humans, but dwarves and goblins, they were once one, Armok crafted the greens kin and the mountain dwellers from the ancient ones, the goblins were left in the depths of the Earth, but the one who left and went to the everlasting light became Dwarves, when the Dwarves encountered and hated the Elves, the Goblins acted apon that too, when the humans uncovered their tunnels, the goblins act upon their hate of the elves and their kin.

There is a reason why we hate the elves, they seek salvation, but they Goblins and Dwarves seek destruction, the humans wanted to topple god's throne and so be it the goblins will keep him there.
Though the goblins have been abandoned by Armok, he still controls them.
