Personality and Engraving
« on: March 04, 2009, 12:51:01 am »

I love engravers.  They're usually some of my favorite and most highly honored dwarves.  Legendary engravers make me happy like little else.

So, what personality attributes affect engraving, and how do they affect them?  I've got one 'fertile creativity' and 'appreciates art and natural beauty' dwarf who I'm very likely to make an engraver.  I've also got another one, 'incredible creativity' and 'does not have a great aesthetic sensitivity' dwarf.  What should I do with him?  Also an engraver, or does that pair of traits lend him well to something else?

Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the blood god, for it is a dwarven number.  It's number is five-hundred and eighty nine.

Make them both be engravers. I tend to go with 4-5 engravers, which means I get a very large variety of things.

Of course they do smooth the entire fortress to reach legendary before engraving a single image, but 4-5 legendary engravers can smooth a huge amount of area in a quick amount of time, and they each have their own engraving quirks.

Just throwing out that a good way to train up legendary engravers without wasting your fortress is to have them smoothing and engraving out the tunnels you dig while going for ore/gems.
