How can I find specific items?
« on: March 03, 2009, 09:53:40 pm »

One of my dwarfs just made a legendary gauntlet!  Before I get the chance to find it, I realize I don't know where it is.  It isn't on the dwarf who made, so is there any way to locate an item like that without looking at every dwarf's inventory?  I checked the stockpiles without luck as well.

Press [z] to go into the status menu, then select "stocks."

From there, scroll down to... it was either armor or handwear, can't remember.

Anyway, it should be in there somewhere. The stocks screen is useful for this sort of thing.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Hmmm I tried that, but it won't let me view anything.  Probably cause I haven't had the book keeper do his thing?  Maybe?

If it's an artifact, you should be able to hit 'l' and zoom to it.

Hi dubradditz, and welcome to the forums!

Yes, you are right, you need a bookkeeper at work to be able to view exact numbers of your stock, as well as to be able to zoom to them. Dunno if he needs to be at highest precision.

You must set precision level via the (n)obles screen before your bookkeeper starts doing anything.
AND he needs a designated office

Although your other post was defenitly in the right place, next time if you have a gaming question, there also is a subforum for them ;)

you can't really zoom from the artifacts menu, but the artifact is probably in the workshop where it was created, press t and mark the shop.

Does your bookkeeper have to have access to all of the fort to get full precision or could you lock him in his office with some food and booze and get the stock menu to full precision?

The latter. He doesn't actually need to look at an item to take inventory; Record Keeping is actually a skill of writing and clairvoyance.

Weird, I could've sworn you could zoom from that menu.  Dang.
