Infinite water
« on: March 03, 2009, 12:52:16 pm »

I read once that by creating a vertical u-bend of uneven height and filling it with water will flood the world.  So I think "let's make one in a closed system with a hatch at the bottom of the U for drainage".  The idea is to fill a resevoir then shut it off. Then pipe water from the resevoir to where I want it.  It didn't work, I got a little more water into the resevoir than I took out of the lake, but not much.

Can anyone recommend an infinite water generator setup?

I always make sure there's a brook around. First of all, it's good to have water in case someone gets a spear in the foot. Second, water-based megaprojects are a personal favorite and brooks never run dry, even if you pump a lake's worth of water out of them.

Aquifer Axiom ( By Foa ) - Aquifers infinitely create water or absorb water.

I think the OP was more getting at using some method to create more water from a finite source of water. Lets say your only source of water on the entire map is a single underground lake. You cannot get more water. How do you turn X units of water into X+1 units of water?

This would similarly be very useful for glaciers, as making water is very difficult and very limited.

There used to be "fun" with U-bends, but I thought that had been fixed?

Freeze it. 1/7 water will freeze into a 7/7 block. Melt it, spread it out, refreeze it, repeat.

Water doesn't freeze in my biome.  The u-bend bug has definitely been fixed, I've tried to forms of it and it did not work.  I'll have to think of something else.  Consequently it's going to be harder to get to the water know that it's in the bottom of an empty cistern.

I've read that two pumps placed so they feed each other will produce more water than they take in, which could be useful.  Does anyone know if this would work if the pumps were submerged?

IIRC, that was due to a pressure bug. Free falling 7/7 water would gain pressure and generate more water on the way down. Fixed as well, I believe.

What was that bug that allowed you to get infinite water from a finite source?

Won't a pump suck in 1/7 and spit out 7/7?

not any more... a few versions ago a pump sucked in any amount of liquid and set the exit point to 7/7 of the liquid.. this had 2 not intended behaviours: create 7/7 out of 1/7 and pump infinite amount of water into the on 7/7 tile

I made a topic on this one ;) Yes, I did, Yes I did a goochy goochy ...

First , channel near a pond/muddy pool. The water in the pond fills the channeld area, do this 3 a4 for times. Then WAIT! let the rain refill all the ponds to 7/7 before you channel another. If you are patient afther some time you'll have a big pool filled with water 6/7 or 7/7. Now you can easily channel a tile or 8,9 before you wait. This offcourse depends on the amount of rain, how long it rains, how frequently it rains and if the biome isn't HOT = evaporates real easily

My water doesn't evaporate, but I thought rain refilling murky pools was something that's yet to be implemented.

rain does refill murky pools, you just can't expand the pool itself to be any larger.
