No attacks?
« on: March 02, 2009, 08:12:14 am »

I've played several forts now, but I'm still within my first week of playing. I have never been besieged by goblins or even attacked by waves of things. Normally just kobold thieves and snatchers, but they're infrequent. Any idea how to provoke goblins into showing up?

I'd prefer fighting against goblins over undead, but hell. Anything will work at this point :P

I had my values up pretty high with my last fortress but things were still relatively peaceful. Any hard numbers on when I should be expecting attacks?

It might also be possible that goblins can't reach your fort.

Well it's wagon accessible, or do you mean the region?

If the goblins are very far away they won't attack.

Goblins won't attack if:

Your settlement is unascessible for them: If its completely surrounded by mountains or large bodies of water, only dwarves will be able to reach you.

They don't exist anymore: Maybe your goblins got wiped out on word gen, quite unlikely though, but it has happened before.

They're too far: If all goblin civilizations are too far from your settlement, they won't bother going on a long, dangerous journey to attack you.

I just started a fort directly east of a town name that was in red. I'm assuming it's something that won't be too happy with my presence :P

Smooth and engrave every square inch of rock in your fortress, that should send the value through the roof. In the meantime, have your craftsdwarves churning out crafts by the binful, and once you start getting a few artifacts your fort value should start getting pretty insane.

But he got goblins close and they can reach him as he have met snatchers,
this is when the orc mod come in. they will siege you the first winter if youre unlucky.
you could also remove the babysnatcher tag to make them siege you much earlier

No, that just means it's a town of your civ, and you can't embark on that spot.

How many months have you been using your current fortress?

I think the goblins only start sieging you when your population hits 80. It's strange that they haven't ambushed you yet, though. They started raiding me at the end of my first year -> middle of my 2nd year in the fortress I'm usin' now.

You could start a zoo and end up with a natural history museum, I'm sure no one would mind.

Darn. New location! This one was a pretty bad place anyways.

I'll try loading up one of my old saves and getting my population up. I"ve never seen anything other than kobolds and animals though. Also, I'll see how much I can increase my value. Will report back soon :D

Awesome! I finally started to get raided by the goblins at around 241k created wealth and 55 dwarfs. Also had 155k imported and 19k exported.

Makes it a lot more fun, especially since they drop armor and weapons too :D
