Questions on abandoning.
« on: March 01, 2009, 05:20:29 pm »

As some of you may know my current fort is...well..boring.

it had its peak already, the king and queen are here, I've got enough booze and prepared meals to feed a fort 20 times my fort's size for several years, the megabeasts stopped coming (I think I captured them all), moods are more than a daily thing now and the worst thing of all: I'm on an island so no gobbos or elves.

Now, I'm planning on abandoning my fort and start a new one. The thing is I named my king and queen and one of their children. Since they're hist figs, will they stay named like that? And when I abandon will they return to their previous fort or linger around my old fort? If I start a new fort and get up to the point where I have enough wealth etc for the king/queen to arrive, will they arrive?

You might chose a different dwarf civ to start from, so you have another king/queen to eventually draw in. I noticed in the Legends that dwarves that I renamed kept the names I gave them; so the king and queen likely will remain as you named them. Though I tended to kill all nobles beyond my mayor upon arrival, so I can't speak with authority on how they act at that level.

Ah, thank you for that reply  :)

Now to lure my old king and queen into a more intense fort. With HFS, no doubt.

Add orcs. It requires a worldgen but the bastards are hardcore.

If THAT isn't hardcore enough, make them into Orks (as Orcs, including that in-your-face siege-you-in-the-first-year action, plus Bronze Colossus-level stats.)

If THAT isn't hardcore enough, then it seems to me that you have transcended the realms of sanity and achieved a state of being beyond dwarfiness.

This is a Dwarven corpse. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encircled with bands of pathetic and menaces with spikes of fail.

What if I gave the Gobbo's all of the stats the Orcs have? Should yield the same results minus the first-year-in-your-face-siege.

Nonononononono, the first-year-in-your-face-siege is what makes it all worthwhile!

Could try nano fortress on a haunted glacier... filled with icewolves and blizzard.

Fight wave after wave of undead stuff if your lucky.
And if a siege happens, its right next to your entrance.

And if your current island fort isn't attracting alot of attention, could move.

if you gen another world go into the standard creature file and instead of something like making gobos unable to speak make the dwarfs unable to speak and gen then quit out of df and changing the dwarfs file back to regular intelligent and you will have the dwarfs be fighting with every other civilization in you world.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

I might just try that, for the sake of having some fun (read:dying) in the first year of my fort.

I wonder if I should give my starting 7 fighting skills or let them learn it on the field of battle...hmmm..
