Dutch people have a greater capacity for what mainstream US citizens call 'liberal filth'.
;)
Let's build a community "below sealevel" fortress.

windmills are a requirement as well as dikes and canals.
and -willow shoes- obviously.
I should do that as my next fort.  I could mod the Creature files to make the dwarfs really tall cause dutch people are really tall.  They're actually the opposite of dwarfs.  Also my dwarfs would have to brew sewer wine, cause dutch beer tastes like c***.

Should that not taste good?

You are mistaken dear sir, it is the Brittish brew that tastes like the stagnant water.
Unless ye are of Belgian derivation, I must take offense at your slander.
(Though I agree on the "Oranje Boom" brand,  which smells like the stuff dwarves leave as offerings to the sun.)

A good polder fortress would require a flat, wet landscape with many ponds, a river/stream or two and several layers of soil.
Aquifiers are optional, but should be more than two layers down.
This because we will have to dig off the upper soil layer to get flooding from rain draining off murky ponds, so that our drainage mills and channels will have work to do.

Stone will likely be sparce, so plenty of trees are welcome.

No fun features, because of lack of mountains, so we will have to create our own threats.
Being offensive to all merchants and deliberate flooding come to mind.

It's been a while since I last tried to do this.

Sorry for the thread-jacking!
An optional flooding system for your arena would be cool.
A- at 1-4 level can combine land/water combatants
B- a safe way to dispose of too dangerous creatures.

One problem: You can't make dikes in real ocean, at least not if you don't dig away the entire land area of the map while leaving a thin dike. Or use obsidian, which is a bit of an idea breaker.
Allowing ocean waves over the dikes would be awesome though, and making huge ass windmill towers with eleborate food processing workshops we pretend are ALL powered.
And then hold a soccer match somewhere in the polder, and watch the place burn down, flood, burn down again Hoezoonderwaterhaddenwevorigekeergeenlastvan.
We gotta make a succesion game out of this, we just HAVE to.

slapie doen. zzz
Doe morgen wel een vertaling in engels. ;)

kay. promised a translation...so something like this:
Quote
Just did a nocturnal testcase for a polder fortress:
-Seaside locations are out due to salinity.
-take as many woodcutters as miners: cave-ins cause death and tantrums
-more than one soil layer is optimal when there is a aquifier.
-no stone means wooden crafts for trade, so pick heavilly wooded area.
(30 stone is adequate for initial mechanisms, but needs to be reserved for that purpose.)

gotta grab some z's.
I'll translate to english tamara.

I didn't actually draw it. Look at the URL.  :P
(Fellow Dutch Guy?)

American I'm afraid. I don't even speak Hollish!

Also, make sure to make the coliseum your meeting area.

Hollish ? what is that , a language spoken by fish?.. People who are Dutch speak Dutch.

I think it is the language spoken by a strange lady in a german fairytale...something with a wishingwell, pillows..or feathers and several girls getting in trouble.

Us dutch speak lowlandish by the way, only the english are silly enough to call us what we call the germans and their tongue. ;)

Actually the belgians call it 'Flamish' for Flanders, the southern reagion of the Netherlands and Northern non-frenchspeaking part of belgium. The hollanders call it 'Hollandish', for the weatern provinces, but most metropolitan dutch just call it 'Netherlandish'.
Germans call it Niederlandish, and the french call it Neerlandais.
Not a clue what the spanish call us..."damn foreigners" probably. ;)

I have gleaned from this topic that someone has made an underwater fortress and modded fish to speak Dutch.

Whoever did it; you have my thanks. You have the world's thanks. You have the thanks of human kind.
