The fort I recently abandoned was the one where I learned about trading and making stuff. Rather fittingly it was called Fortunecrafts.

my current fort is called The Muscled Towers...

CryptShaken was a reject that I remember.  Great site, but it had the exit to a chasm near the center - I had saved the world, and tried several different embark sizes and centerings (6x6, 5x5's, 5x6's), but always embarked at the same location, right next to a half dozen (each) antmen and trogs, with more right behind.  Got a giant bat one of my tries.

Call me weak, but I just didn't want to go there.

my last fort was called Grimgold the Tomb of Fools.

they all died when noone wanted the close the door when the orcs came :(

When I was introducing my brother to Dwarf Fortress, his first fortress ended up being called "Burnwound."

I never get interesting random names... they're always weird things like 'Inkchanneled' or 'Clasp of Finding'. I custom name all my fortresses.

Does this mean I have to build a palace and get a king?

not really any other choice. its possible to get seeds from plants though, so thats an option
