The obvious balls of steel ;)

Currently playing my fort craftspower, quite a missleading name. All my $$$ comes from traders/ immigrants comeing over and dieing in horrific ways.

My most memorable one was Trumpetworthy.
I should have dedicated the fort to making musical instruments.

Fires, sieges, bloody stupid projects, mega beasts NOTHING stopped this one.

Spearsmears the Hole of Endings.
A treeless frozen waste with an aquifier at LEAST 4 levels thick LITTERED with skeletal muskoxen. They died quickly, slowly, angrily, depressedly, and in other ways. But always horribly.

however, my last fort WAS named "Stormwind"

A few weeks ago, I was introducing my younger brother to Dwarf Fortress. We were cycling through the Random Name Generator, looking for something interesting.

"Burnwound."

a really noob question (cuz I'm a noob..):
How do you guys all know what all the names of the fortresses and dwarves are in English?

I was wondering what the name of my fortress translated to but I forgot to read the first screen when I embarked, so I don't know what its name is in English. Is there a way to find out now?

usualy when searching through words under the name fortress option it'll have the english word on the left and tghe dwarven word on the right :V

The names themselves aren't particularly amazing, but the trend with the randomization was awesome:

My first tower fortress, randomized: Ritewind (which i stuck with cause It was going to be a tower and I liked the idea of the winds whipping past)

My second tower fortress which i -forgot- to check the name on before embarking turned out to be: Postwinds (probably means 'post' the object but all I think of is Post- as in After-). didn't last long as it was at the intersection of three massively carp-infested rivers.

My most recent glass tower fortress, again random: Threewinds

This game is so cool XD. My triple-legendary marksdwarf/wrestler/hammerdwarf i've nicknamed The Fourth Wind, my fortresses's greatest hero. he gets all my artifact armor :)

I recently started my first community fort, with the name Staticbasements.  The game is based on the community founding guildhalls that recruit immigrants and make deals to improve their guilds.

Mid way through the game I noticed the the random name of our group; The Shaken Guilds

I've just started a fort. Didn't check the name before embark, but it's turned out to be something incredibly dwarven: Helmedbeards.
