I am MADE my own race...

But am having trouble figuring out where to start.
Any advice on what to add to said race to make it playable?
Any general needs?
Enlighten me.

EDIT: I HAVE read the Wiki and about the tokens, but got very confused.
Making a cat-human race would be pretty sweet, but dont know how to add the extra parts (Paws for feet, tail, ears).

Well, a common tool of less developed modders (myself included) is to take an existing civ and modify minor details to turn it into the race you want...
Lots of the customization also comes into the names, creature files, and items they have. Once you have tweaked the template from, say the Elves in your case, go through the wiki and put in (or remove) any tags you deem appropriate.
Then you would make your own body entry for this race, changing names for feet and hands, and adding a tail and whatnot...

This modding guide should get you started quite nicely. It covers a lot of things.

There are [BODYGLOSS:(new body name)] tokens that simply change the name of a body part on a creature.  Bodygloss tokens are added to the creature entry, not the body entry.  Give me a second, and I'll find a better explanation.

Yes, the advice to (a) read the wiki and (b) start by modding an existing race  --  that is excellent advice.  It's how I got my new mod to a pretty much playable state in a matter of two or three days.  Given, my mod is fairly minor and it took around a week of asking questions and reading the wiki to get up to speed.

Ok, thanks guys.
One more question...
How do I make it so the race I am attempting to make will periodically seige my dwarves?
I dont like making a race and then having nothing else to do with it besides running around as an adventurer.

EditEditEdit: Ok, after looking around the wiki for a while, it turns out I was, in fact, right. But that'll only make them siege you if they're angry with you, so you might need to add in a few other tags.

EditEdit: Scratch that. I'm not sure if I'm wrong or right. Now, can a veteran modder please step in here and correct me...? :P

I'm no experienced modder, but I think it's [SIEGER]. If you don't want them to siege you when the very first Winter comes, put in [BABYSNATCHER].

[BABYSNATCHER] means that a race will steal babies and raise them.
[SIEGER] means that when a race attacks you, it will huddle in a group outside your fort before attacking.
[AMBUSHER] means that a race will send invisible groups that won't be seen until they attack or are discovered when it attacks.
The lack of all of these means that a race will send groups that just head straight to your fort and attack.

Just create a race and make sure that it has an [ACTIVE_SEASON:?] tag. If they are mad at you then they will attack you during that season. If you want a race that is always hostile, replace the [INTELLIGENT] tag with [CAN_LEARN][CAN_CIV]. To make it not appear immediately, add [PROGRESS_TRIGGER_POPULATION:1] this should make them appear once you gain a little more than 7 dwarves.

After a couple of minutes hours and hours of hard work, I finally made my first race:

EDIT: Before you ask, yes, I DID just copy the Human race stuff and added in mine.

I think it's a vastly amusing thought that elephants are so afraid of heights that when Dwarves invented the Z-axis, they couldn't bear to face dwarves in combat anymore.

Yeah, and I snapped right to that.
Thanks for noticing, though.
After my race couldnt open doors, I kinda panicked.
But, I should be fine.

EDIT: Aaaaaand I spoke too sooooooon.
Now, my new race of Andarreans will not show up when I play adventurer. Oh, and I corrected the errors in the codes.
Perhaps some good modding soul can assist me.

EDITEDIT: And by not show up, I mean the square they are on is blank. Also, I can't talk to them.

EDIT^3 (I think...): BAH! How could I forget [INTELLIGENT]? But unfortunately, I still am unable to see them. Just a blank space.
