how do i find a Fortress on the map?
« on: February 27, 2009, 08:51:33 am »

So Ive got a fortress, and, lets say I want to start up a new one Right NEXT to the old one... I want to abandon, settle in the same spot, but not reclaim the old one... How would I find the exact spot where my fortress was once I have abandoned it?

1) Start a new fort
2) Go to 'R'eclaim mode and scroll to the old fort you want to start next to.
3) 'space' to cancel reclaim.
And you're there.

Well that works, but now i have a new thought... Is there a way to "Wipe" a fortress? start fully over from the begging as if it didnt exist?

you can re-gen the world.

after a map export (either from fortress or legends mode), there should be a text file in your DF folder with a name that refers to your region and ends with "-world_gen_param". copy it into data/init/world_gen.txt, but make sure to change the TITLE line in the part you copy in.

then just re-embark in the same place, but note that if you change the size of your local area or the active biome when you press "e", the exact stone types won't be the same
