Oh. I get it. PS3 doesn't have the XBL stuff.
I pay for ISP separate.
What I get for my Gold Membership (chatting I think doesn't gold, but I don't know)
1: Chatting
2: Ability to see friends from MSN (I.E. PC chat) and XBL, as well as what games XBL people own and are playing
3: Good ability to invite and join friends in games
4: Ability to play in online games (including pretty good matchmaking code)
5: Updates and added content for almost every game
6: Demos for new games, both real and xbl arcade
7: ability to download micro (community games), both demo and full
8: Game videos
9: Ability to rent movies (for a fee)
10: Streaming Netflix (I have netflix, so this is an added bonus)
Yah, there is no question that you do get more from XBL, although most of the things you listed are also available on the free PSN as well.
1> Chatting, both voice and text.
2> Ability to see what games friends are playing.
3> Ability to invite and join friends in games (being added to in the next game as well to be more on-par)
4> Ability to play in online games (the matchmaking service is not unified however ,each game developer has to figure out their own solution, so that is certainly a point for Xbox)
5> Updates and added content for almost every game.
6> Demos for new games, both retail and PSN
7> Sony currently has no community solution a la XNA so this is a clear point for MS.
8> Game Videos, as well as trailers for bluray and theatrical movie releases.
9> Ability to rent and buy movies for a fee.
10> Not netflix, but sony has their own similar service run through the PSN Store with a rather large selection of movies and TV shows.
