I can only assume from the responses that the new version is stable enough for me to move on.
So this is the plan:
First I'm going to set up some preliminaries related to the editors -- for instance, I'm going to make a procedure that, say, turns human females into human males (FTM!), so that I can save on space storing the two different genders. These transformations will be great for making things like hooved mammals (a "feet to hooves" transformation could be used -- although I guess a hoof is more like a glueing together of the toes). I'm also going to add to the creature descriptions -- in particular, I'm going to try to make a summary that condenses the current lengthy text.
Then I'm going to make editors:
Material editor
Creature Form (quadruped, etc.) editor
Motif (mammal, etc.) editor
Species editor
There will also be a model editor for drawing up the creature pieces and so on, but I'm not sure how presentable that one will be at first. My first priority here is just to get the models drawn properly, so that humans look right.
Then I'm going to produce a few new motifs (like reptiles and insects), as well a number of stock creatures (most notably humans).
After all of this, I'll set up some world parameters for the definition files. That way you can import your own stock creatures, and set up what sorts of creatures you want to have, and so on, as well as whatever else I decide to put in now.
Finally, I'll do some items from the clean up list, which is becoming bloated again.
It's a lot of work -- fortunately, I think the editors will be the last truely tedious programming task for a while. Looking over The Plan, it looks like we'll finally be getting back to the meat of the game.
I can't really give a good release date for the next version. It will take a while. It's May 5th now... maybe I'll be done in early June. It depends on school and a lot of other things. Maybe I'll be done sooner, maybe later. Hopefully before July... putting the stock creature editor in this release has really made it an enormous one. It will take time.
