I have not yet read "The Audacity of Hope", his second book, but I know that "Dreams From My Father" is not propaganda. It will not even discuss his political views all that much; as I said, he wrote it before his political career, so it's very soul-baring stuff. What it will do is give you an understanding of who he is and where he comes from as a person. If you are interested, you can probably get a downloaded recording of Obama reading either or both of his books aloud. Rest assured the quality of the narration is excellent -- he won grammy awards for his recordings of both books.

The complete book for free? Being read to me by Obama? How the hell can people still buy the book when they have THAT available!?

I want a link!

Summary of deleted posts:  Some people argue about the existence of a media establishment (at first rather harmlessly about the standard stuff, in particular at first about Obama's grammy).  New ground wasn't tread though, and even before the now-banned Moon posted, the thread had some fighting going on.  Please continue roughly on-topic or at least civilly.

(Whoa.  Let's do the time warp again!)

I'm not a fan of audio books myself, because I can never pay attention long enough and have to keep rewinding it.  I suppose I'd have to give that one a listen.  Not that I haven't heard the guy's life story via every other telling.

I can't seem to find the link that Jonathan is talking about.  I can find a link that lets you download "The Audacity of Hope", but it's sure as hell not legal.

I don't like audiobooks much myself because I read much faster than I can listen to a guy talking, but they do have one use for me - Long trips in the car.  I'm gonna give this a listen the next time I go out of town.

Well, you still have to buy them, but you should be able to find them online for download for no more than $20 US each. I got them on iTunes for $28 for the both of them, or $14 for just "Dreams From My Father".

I like because I can listen while cleaning the kitchen, walking to class, or otherwise multitasking. But, I don't have trouble keeping my attention on it, so I'm sure it'll depend on your preference. Speaking for myself, I learned much more about his life story from the book than I learned from the entire political campaign. In particular, it goes much more into the people who influenced him, and the emotions and feelings that underpin the events of his life. I think it was time well spent.

Ah. Figures. Well I can't buy online due to... Parental issues. I will be able to buy online once I get my own bank account. But for that, you need a job over here. Otherwise, you get screwed.

Figures. I turn 16. Finally able to get a job. BAM! Credit crisis.
