Oh So Tired
« on: February 25, 2009, 06:34:01 am »

Now it is 5:30 AM and I am studying. In the past three days I have gotten about 10 hours of sleep. Now I have to go thru 7 hours worth of classes. I'm afraid if I go to sleep I won't get back up. Today is going to suck...

In times like this, I have a stout cup of black tea with sugar and milk with my breakfast before setting out into the bright morning air to walk half a mile to class, or ride my bike three miles downhill to the other campus.

Frenzy Advice begin

Talk a lot throughout the day... be in constant movement.  Stretch your muscles in class.  Drink very hot or very cold tasty beverages. Be happy, You're alive!

End of Advice....

If this helps you... use it.  If it doesn't ... ignore it.

We are confident in you.

Pfffft...

Every week, I have to stay awake from noon Sunday to dawn Tuesday, get up noon Tuesday and stay awake to dawn Thursday, get up noon Thursday and stay awake until Friday night.  I work the midnight shift lifting boxes, and go to class at all hours of the day.

Last November, I had to stay awake for an entire week, with barely a dozen hours sleep over six days.  I had to write a 15 page paper, study for two tests, and glue myself to the TV for the Presidential election coverage.  Five days in, I realized that every eight hours I was taking caffeine pills, aspirin, sudafed, and rum.  By the end of the sixth day I was have trouble just not hallucinating.

I have a few different ways of powering through long no-sleep periods.  One is, make sure you eat a lot.  Pasta or chili are good, but whatever it is, make sure you stay full.  Another thing that just works for me because I'm neurotic is keep calculating exactly how long you have to stay awake, and keep plotting and replotting your schedule and time allotment.  Not only will it keep you on track and focused on your work, but the math keeps your brain firing, and knowing the finite time left makes it go by quicker.

You know, the weirdest thing happened. After reading this thread about sleep deprivation, I went to the "legalization of weed" thread, and was thinking "ok, that guy babbling about the slippery slope should really get off his high horse". So I googled High Horse expecting to find a nice pic to post, but instead found a pic of a lion riding a horse, which was in a digg.com page that linked me to a cracked.com article about, guess what: drugs! And the first drug in the list was a drug that helped people deal with lack of sleep and needing a pick-me-up (without the nasty side effects of caffeine and stimulants).

So, I present ya modafinil. It's a very interesting read and I think it's something people should pay attention too, it could be the next awesome thing.

Anyway this is the cracked.com list I got linked to: http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-real-ways-to-get-high-straight-out-of-science-fiction/

It somehow seemed relevant to this discussion. Except for the random googling part, which I just found was funny.

You could always go berserk. Just be sure to put it on youtube.

That's the sort of long string of conections that I usually make. Seriously though, the 'mol' has a clear link to 26.
I really better be starting the last section for my engligh paper. There are only five hours till I have to wake up.  :-\

*Dragon meat stew [3]* This is a stack of 3 well-prepared dragon meat stew. The ingredients are finely-minced Dwarven syrup, minced quarry bush leaves and well-minced dragon meat.

Sounds good?  :D

But then, life was also easier when I was running around here pretending to be a man, so I guess I should just "man up" and get back to work.

With as much... what?

My mind automatically inserted "mayo" because... I don't know why, but rereading brought me to the conclusion that there is no noun in that sentence.

Don't do a sandwich. Make some grits, or an omelet, or some diced and fried potatoes. Breakfast food.
