Unluckiest Battle
« on: February 24, 2009, 09:01:48 pm »

Mine would have to be the time a was ambushed by a group of beak dogs. My spearman buddies and I proceeded to (try) slaughter them. About 4 had been taken down with me fighting the last one. I stabbed it in the brain, broke its spine cut its toe off it killed me!!!! My spearmen "friends" were saved and the beakdogs were dead but so was I.

I'd like to hear any other tales of bad luck because sometimes I think this game is sometimes screwing with me.

I was killed by a farmer. AND I WAS A ADEPT ARMOR WEARER!

not unlucky, but one time, I was a dwarf maceman, and took on 8 BEAK DOGS! Tossed like 3 off a cliff.  ;D

I had trained up an adventurer using swimming , ambushing, and wrestling.  Stats were nearly maxed out, and I had fairly decent shield and armor skills.  As a result I would more or less blow through lesser megabeasts without a scratch.

I get ambushed by 6 wolves, and in the first round of combat my throat is torn out.  I manage to kill the entire pack, but die before I can try to Travel and save myself.

Luckiest wolf in the world, and it gained a posthumous title as a result.

Umm, yeah, I'll (or, to be more exact, let the DF wiki that you should have been using already) explain this one.
Quote
Armor User is the skill related to the wearing of armor in combat. Dwarves with this skill will be slowed by heavy armor less than usual, in proportion to the skill level. Armor user skill is gained when a dwarf wearing armor is successfully hit in combat, either sparring or in the field, wrestling or with a weapon.
Apparently does not mention Armor User affecting ability of the armor at all, as that makes no sense.  Your ability to wear armor without being slowed does not affect the armor's ability to block anything, as common sense dictates.

Adept = 1/2 weight of armor calculated for slowdown.

With all the horror stories about Ice, I'm kinda afraid.

Wait...

Getting ambushed by icewolves on/near a glacier and while getting my legs chewed a massive lag followed by a giant wave of water...yeah it happens...

I assume it was spring or summer and the glacier was melting.  Happens alot, although I've never seen it.  It's more interesting when you realize that the glacier doesn't start melting until you actually enter the area, so you get the whole disaster movie treatment almost immediately upon landing.

I started an adventurer with the name "Dandy Candyluck". Five steps out of the first town her throat was torn out by wolves. Shortest game ever.

If only it happens more often  :(

Also this may not be on topic but I've had a  GIANT WALL OF FIRE come out of no where during an immigration killing all but two , it came from the most north of the map and the magma pipe was basicly my fort so not sure exactly what happened other than maybe a adventurous fire imp or something of the sort that causes wild fires... maybe has to do with with the wild fires I was spreading at elf camps as an adventurer....or maybe I forgot to unmod the cats...hmm....
